Natural remedies (don't get stuck on necessarily taking a drug even if it is natural. If your depression is moderate to severe, you probably should be taking a prescription)

Winter type depressions or general depression - get as much sunlight as possible, use a SAD light box (seasonal affective disorder) It works for non-seasonal depression too. The Sunray or similar very bright light box is good. Order online, the local medical supply will charge too much and their boxes are not bright enuf. Put skylights in your house, if you are a homeowner.

Anxiety- turn up the heat in your house!! I find that at about 74 degrees F that I cannot feel anxious no matter what, especially if I put on a sweatshirt. Anxiety makes your blood vessels constrict, that is part of the feeling of anxiety, but if you are warm, it won't happen. Hot baths also work, and a shower in a pinch (but they don't last as long, so you don't get such a break.) Don't laugh!! It really really works!!

Exercise vigorously 1/2 hour a day or whenever your mood is tanking. Dancing helps (I am a fattie that has no idea how to dance, so I put on loud rock & roll and just do my thing, and chase hubby out the door so I don't feel dumb)

Listen to upbeat music - you may tend to listen to downer music when you are down, so do the opposite and listen to happy stuff.

Keep yellow things around, paint your walls bright colors.

Go out with friends/join a social club even if you don't want to because you are depressed.

Get a guided imagery tape or progressive muscle relaxation, and use it!! Some of these are kinda cool.

If you are in a toxic situation, work to get out of it, because you will always be depressed if you're in an impossible situation. Avoid toxic people, no one should be putting you down on a regular basis.

Good luck!! Remember, if your depression is pretty bad, you probably will have to take a prescription drug.

The best natural remedy is lavender oil. Rub it onto your temples, and your pressure points, it will instantly give you a sense of deep relaxation and take stress away.

The best I have found for stress is Valerian...it is very mild. I've tried to use St. John's Wort for depression. My only problem is you are supposed to take it in between meals which is difficult for me to remember.
These have really worked.
