No. It's much worse.
On Oz, all of the Officers are either corrupt or are idiots. In real life, only half the Officers are corrupt or are idiots.
Also, the inmates have much more freedom of movement on OZ than they do in real life. In real life, they don't get to interact with each other as much.
I just got the first 2 seasons on DVD for Christmas, and although I am enjoying watching it, I often yell at the TV or turn it off in disgust. But I always turn it back on again... :-)

i never seen the show Oz... but i know this.... i met with a former prisoner named Mad Dog. he is pertty famous. he was on teh maury show and some other talk shows he's been to schools. his face shows how bad prison can be.... his nose isnt real... under the skin of his nose is plastic. his nerves in his face in some spots are gone. in prison some prisoners are sold for 2 ciggaretts... some of the prisoners pretty much have a shank at their neck the whole time a officer isnt presant... the only way to prove yourself in prison is to fight and win.. and even then people will challenge you. only a few will respect you. so prison is pretty bad

If you want to know what real life in prison is, watch another show: "Lockdown". Check your local listings. The show is pretty much a day-to-day review of what happens in prison. From the sex-offender who designs guitars with scrap wood, to the life-sentence prisoner who reads "Man's search for meaning," the show is raw and tough. It's good. And it shows the prison as it really is.

I would NEVER want to be there.

There are some things that are inherently bad without having to experience them. Prison is one of them. I don't need to go there to know that I don't want to. But if you just HAVE to know then rob a bank, shoot someone in the process, get caught, and find out for yourself. Then in 40 years or so when you get out you can tell us ! OK?

Most jails are horrible...but if you go to a federal prison I have heard that they are much nicer. Oh and don't ever get busted in Maracopa County Arizona, now they have a really bad jail system.
