And if you can't find a way to deal with your problem and try so hard to solve your problem...

I mean like for example, if
you go hiking one day and you get stuck between boulder rocks...
What would you do? Would you say the G word?

Would you say, "Um.... God, I guess you know by now I am
an Atheist, if there is a God... will you please please please
help me????"

Well, before calling out to any deities, I would probably call out verbally for other humans. I heard about one guy who sawed his leg off in that situation.

I was mugged not too long ago in Chicago. I didn't pray, but I did toss an empty wallet in the opposite direction, then ran. It was probably a better decision than praying.

No, I would take the proper precautions to try and avoid a situation like that in the first place, and being faced with it I would undoubtedly be scared, but I wouldn't look to the supernatural for help.

I really hate this "no atheists in foxholes" mentality. It just isn't true. There are many atheist soldiers, police and rescue personnel who face death every day to help or protect people, and when people perpetuate these notions, I think it diminishes their accomplishments in some way. It also says something about the person making the statement, that they have a low opinion of humanity to begin with.

So, the answer to your question is, no, most people don't call out to things that they don't believe in.

Why is it that people seem to think that EVERYBODY has to be religious? You know, there are some people who just don't require religion to have a nice, long, healthy life.

Religion and theism isn't a requirement for life. If I was stuck between boulder rocks, I would keep trying until I either got out, or died trying. What does god or religion have anything to do with a worst case scenario? Stop stereotyping atheists and thinking that they're just in denial or that they'd be begging a god they don't even believe in for mercy.

Gods don't affect every person's life, you're just going to have to deal with that. People can deal with things without praying or turning to a god.

SO, If YOU're stuck between boulder rocks, would God help you? Like you, i'm pretty sure Atheists find solutions to problems. Let me know if God provides ALL the answers to your problems. Remember the guy who did get stuck and his only way out was to cut his arm or leg off. Do you really think that was God's answer?

Only as soon as you start talking to my sister's imaginary friend and asking her for help. Because that is just as ridiculous to assume I'd do that when something is not real to me. Weird.

It is very evident that believers have a hard time grasping the fact that some people do not believe.

Edit: lesliejay63, I do NOT want to know what kind of life you lead that you might actually KNOW that... (someone call the authorities)

No I would no more do that than I would rub a lamp hoping for a genie to get three wishes. Seriously I regard the probability of Gods to be slightly lower than the probability of Genies, although both are so low as not to be worth bothering with.

Of course being an atheist I likely am too smart to get stuck in the first place.

Lets put this on the other foot. Suppose you went to a bowling alley and your ball didn't come back so you put your head in the ball return looking for it and it got stuck. Would you call for help or pray to Jesus?

You do realize that the god who allowed you to get into this situation is the same god that are now beseeching with all your might to get you out of it . How do you find a god with that degree of immature cruelty to be worthy of worship ?

I have no problem accepting that sometimes, we're just done for. I would consider appealing to God, but I wouldn't really expect a reply from God.

Miss: God gave us brains to work things out for ourselves.
The scenario you depict is easily prevented by either going with others or have a powerful radio on hand.
You will need to pose a more challenging question.

well, the only reason we even know what the concept of 'god' is, is because of society, and society imposing it's views on individuals, we're born with an 'empty' head, and it's disgusting that religion takes a chunk out of it at a young age... why am I even writing anything, you're not going to read or comprehend anything

you're not a worthwhile person
