I'll take a crack at it. Metalsmiths melt silver and gold using intense heat in order to remove the scummy dross (impurities) which float to the top. The end result of the trial by fire is that the metal is refined, pure, and shiny.
Maybe this quote is making a scriptural reference to the fact that through trials our faith is tried, tested, and we are refined? Proverbs 25:4, "Let there be a removing of scummy dross from the silver, and all of it will come forth refined."

Unless the oil is burnt it doesnt give light, in the same way unless u burn ur oil,meaning unless u toil so much u cannot shine.........succeed
