Beer is governed by individual taste. Personally I don't care for the beer produces by companies such as Bud, but there are hundres of micro breweries in the US that produce great beer. Many of my favourite beers are from countries outside the US, such as Germany, New Zealand and others.

There are some good American microbrews.

However, you have to remember, the styles they make are based on European models (eg, British, Irish, Belgian, German).

As a general rule (and all rules have exceptions), European beer is better than American. Not all "foreign" beer, as for example, Indian beer and Mexican beer isn't any better than the mass produced "American lager" style of beer that became popular in the USA since the Prohibition era (as these mass-produced beers from other "foreign" countries tend to adhere to the "lighter" model).

Lighter styles of beer (with rice and corn adjuncts) came on the scene to increase profitability, not taste. And you can still have a lighter style of beer (eg, lager) with more taste than, say, Budweiser. It just depends on who is making it, their ultimate goal with the beer, and the quality of the raw materials used.

Beer produced by the big companies in the USA is crap. A lot of the micro brews are good here. Foreign beers are better though... But vodka is still better than beer anyday..

Like many have already said, it depends on your taste preferences, and the beer itself. There are many good breweries in the US, and there are many bad breweries outside of the US. It is also not fair to always judge domestic and imports side-by-side. I love Guiness, but I wont drink it in the US. Ive had it here, it as fine, but not great. Ive had it in Germany, where it was very good, but in London, it was wonderful. Ive had Pilsner Urquell here in the US, but it was miserable compared to Pilsner Urquell in Prague. The same for Hacker Pshorr Hefeweißen, Paulaner Hefeweißen, Spaten Helle, Warsteiner all of them, Spezial Rauchbier. The beer always tastes better the closer to the brewery you are. Thats why in Germany, you drink what is brewed close by. You typically dont walk in and ask what is on tap or what beers do you have, you just order the type, and they bring it.

Better than American-style beer like Budweiser, sure. Just about anything is.

But if you're talking a smaller craft brew, well, I've had some that can't be beat.

Yes but being American is better than being foreign.
