If you are "a little school girl living in Kanasas ..." (per your profile), then you must have been very, very young to have received your tattoo.
Bubba, is that you....

no. i don't remember when only the scum of the earth had tattoos. but i remember being a little girl and loving tattoos. being fascinated by them. and the day i turned 18 i got my first tattoo. 8 years later i am working on a full back tattoo and have aspirations for so much more. just because you had your tattoo first doesn't make you or your tattoos any "better".
also not everybody today gets tattoos to be cool. i got mine because they are art. i collect art in all forms. watercolor, acrylic, oil and skin+ink.

You are a moron. Just because people didn't accept them years ago, doesn't make the people that had them scum. It just makes the belief people had back then wrong. It is just more accepted today. If you got a tattoo, because you wanted people to see you as a tough guy or alienate yourself, you got it for entirely the wrong reason. Pick another way to distance yourself from society. I for one am glad tattoos are more accepted today. I have my entire back, both arms sleeved, and upper chest done and I am glad that I don't have to worry that I won't be able to get a certain job, because someone has idiotic beliefs, like all people with tattoos are scum!

Like someone had mentioned earlier...tattoos have been around since practically the beginning of time. I mean they have found mummies with tattoos and other body modifications.
So, if you think you had them done before they were 'accepted' then...good for you "scum"....but I really do not believe so....

Get over yourself.
"Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since Neolithic times. Mummies bearing tattoos and dating from the end of the second millennium BC have been discovered at Pazyryk on the Ukok Plateau. Tattooing in Japan is thought to go back to the Paleolithic era, some ten thousand years ago." ~Wikipedia
Edit: Hey, Don't diss the skull tattoos, my husband has a skull band on his forearm and i LOVE it!

I don't know if I would have used the term "scum" seems a little harsh.....but mostly bikers, service men, and an occasion bar fly or lot lizard would have them.....
now... like everything else it has become a fad....it will come and than go.....
I just hope the kids getting them today will not regret them later on...my sister-in-law is going for a bodysuit I think...she has about 90 % of her upper body done (not the face...just the neck down)...not really sure about the rest....

I don't remember that.
I do remember when it wasn't looked upon as "socially accepted."
Times have changed, tattoos are a form of body art and if done right can be a beautiful piece of art.

Seeings as tattoos have been around for hundreds and hundreds of years, You must be pretty freaking old if you got one "Before they were cool". Face it, Nothing we do is original anymore because chances are somewhere, its already been done.
