Marzipan is delicious. For the best marzipan, try an ethnic German or Italian bakery. Trust me, once you try genuine European marzipan (relatively low sugar, no playdough texture, genuine almond flavor), you will never want the regular generic cloyingly sweet marzipan. The best marzipan comes from Lubeck, Germany. They do add some 'secret ingredients' to make it taste so good, including alcohol and rose essence.
Have you ever tasted amaretto or a crushed peach pit? That's what marzipan tastes like but without the bitterness. The flavor is from benzaldehyde.

RE:
What does marzipan taste like?
I'm not sure if that's how you spell it but its that thing you make with crushed almonds and put on cakes. Does it taste sweet?

Good marzipan is sweet. Unfortunately it has the texture of new playdough. But it has a nice (not overpowering) flavor of almond.

it is a kind of sweet paste. It is really good with chocolate or on cakes. It is similar to icing, but different at the same time. I dont really know how to explain it other than that it is kind of a sweet tasting mixture. Sorry.
