was it the magazines, the smell, the quiet scream in the background, the big bush you could hide from, the evil eye from the receptionist? the really comfy beanbag?

Well, you've come to the right person with your question. I had 3 crowns and 1 extraction in the last 6 months. LOL.

The surgeon had a really, really, large flat TV on the wall with an aquarium show running (tape?). It was awesome. On the opposite side of the room, he had a waterfall sculpture. Kool Beans.

I enjoyed my visit soooooo much, I'll be returning for more surgeries. jk

I like a dental room that provides a short wait, with very few customers waiting (showing it will be a short wait) and no signs or sounds of trauma.

All the other things are just added bonuses (magazines, the smell, the big bush you could hide from, the fish tank, TV, water fall, and the really comfy beanbag).

Finally, the very last thing I like to see and feel is me leaving without pain.

Hey Bounce, long time no see.

I really like my OWN waiting room. It is just like a living room in an old house. The ceiling is 9 feet high. The floor is original 1835 random plank maple and it is in excellent condition. There are four extra large windows to let in a lot of natural light.

The room is about 15x15 (feet) and I have a plush area rug in the center of the room that is about 10x12 feet. There is a radio speaker in the wall for music to help isolate the room from dental sounds. There are original paintings hanging on the wall.

The chairs are actual antiques, but they are very comfortable. I've had patients say, "If you ever decide to redecorate your waiting room, call me before you get rid of your chairs." The most popular chair is a platform rocker. We only had seating for five, as we do not keep people waiting, but with a hygienist and with some families choosing to all come in at once, I added a little bench under a window for "overflow." Children often read books on the carpet much as they would at home, so the seats are generally not all full.

In addition to about 12-15 magazines that are always the current issue, I have an interesting collection of books. I choose books such as "Guiness Book of World Records" or "Why Do They Call It..." so that people can be interupted at almost any moment and not be lost in the midst of some long chapter on something. They are all "coffee table" books. At least 3 or 4 times a week, someone comments that I have the "most interesting selection of books."

It is a bit of a problem for US, but I think the patients like that they are not under the constant gaze of a staff member. The room remains intact as it was built in 1835 and there is no window cut through the wall or anything. It feels very much like a living room.

I only require two things from the waiting room of a dentist office. Don't let me hear the drilling and get me in and out asap. I don't have to sit in a comfortable chair, I don't need magazines or TV, I don't need the receptionist to adopt me, I don't need brochures or graphic pictures to explain to me what disagreeable things are going to happen to me once I get out of the waiting room into the dental chair.

Got to be the magazines!
Jam packed with various womens magazines that are about four months old and for the blokes like me you get a stupid fishing magazine or diving...yawn; if the injection doesn't knock you out the male magazines will.

The waiting room has french doors that are kept open in nice weather, and which open to a lovely garden. It really is pleasant.
