Because, Samantha, a child is simply not capable of making adult decisions. And the decision to have a physical relationship is an adult decision.
I'm sure that you feel that you are mature enough to handle it, and maybe you are, but most people your age are not, and the laws must protect them.
Unfortunately, there are people out there - mostly men - who have the "skill" to be able to seduce young people, or intimidate them, and convince them to do wrong things. These men are predators, and the young people are their prey. Very rarely do they care about the person whose life they are ruining, they just want to have a good time.
If someone is trying to make you do something that you KNOW is wrong, please speak with a trusted adult and / or the police.
He really does not love you, Samantha.

For a number of reasons the law PROTECTS! minors from making bad decisions that in fact, and experience are, in most cases, wrong, bad, and most of all un-informed. Depending on the age of the minor, decisions to be with an adult, on the surface may seem to the minor like LOVE, when in reality, The relationship is doomed from the start. Here's an example; Take a grown individual who has already experienced alot of what the minor is yet to experience. As the relationship continues, it's usually the minor who starts to get bored and wonder. Or the adult begins to look elsewhere for a more mature conversation as the minor usually lacks in the knowledge of the subject. And another big reason is the FACT that in time the two of you usually grow apart and in the process you both get saddled with kids and knocked out of a chance to experience LIFE and the oportunity to get a good education and/or go to college. For the most part relationships between minors and adults tend to end with alot more resentment towards each other and causes the children born during the relationship to suffer emencely. So please keep in mind " If you can't be friends, You can't be anything, Friends repect each other for the most part and look out for each other, NOT HURT EACH OTHER!!

GOD BLESS/GOOD LUCK !!

The purpose is to protect children (I’m sure you don’t like that word, but there is anyway) from adult exploitation/ manipulation.

As for the argument of age doesn’t matter/it’s just a number/etc.…that’s true…once you’re an adult (and hopefully by that point you’ll have some maturity and life experience--although it may be limited--under your belt). But when dealing with minors it does matter and it’s MUCH more than a number.

You can claim that you forced the adult to have a relationship with you (by the way, short of blackmail--which is illegal--it’s impossible to force someone to have a relationship with you) and/or that you ‘consented’ to the relationship all you want, but it won’t make a bit of difference. It’s still illegal.

Age matters because it is immoral for an adult to have a sexual relationship with a child. Even though teens are more mature these days, they are still children. If you are so in love with him/her then you can wait until he/she turns 18 and then continue your relationship. The other reason why is so that old men don't victimize young girls, take their virgninity, get them pregnant and then move on to the next girl.

Because some believe that science has proved that most people haven't emotionally, or physically matured until they are about 17-19 years old. Most men don't become fully mature until around 26-27 years old. Women mature much earlier but still.

yes, it depends on the state your living in, in Kansas the consensual age is 16, my tattoo artist told me that, he was wanting a 17 or 18 year old girl. I thought 18 was the age where you could get away with almost anything, not sure though.

In most states it is statutory rape. But some states such as Washington have very watered-down laws regarding statutory rape. Thank you, Gov. Mike Lowry. . . The Pacific Northwest is becoming increasingly more liberal and the children less protected.
