They can easily adapt to an outside habitat, but they must do it over time. You can't just take them out of a warm house, and stick them outside in the middle of winter!!! They need a cozy place to curl up in out of the weather, like they would in the wild!!! If you can't handle their musky smell, you should have done your research ahead of time.. One thing that will help, is to keep their cage, or wherever you keep them's floor covered up with wood chips, and some cat litter!!! Otherwise, you may have to find some-one to adopt them!!! The musky smell comes with the territory!!! Besides that, this is the Birds area---Birdman

If you mean can they live outdoors, yes, they can. They can grow a thick winter coat like a mink. But I would be careful about putting an indoor ferret suddenly into very cold weather, if they are not used to it.
Of course they need shelter from wind and rain, and from heat in the summer.

Ferrets are smart enough to do anything you wanna train them to do. They actually have human intelligence, emotions, and if you insult them, they understand, and will get depressed too.
