I recently received an email, from a soldier explaning the real way it was over in Iraq. The real reason why people were fighting. There are 3 factions in Iraq, the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds. Sadam was a Sunni, so he kept the Shiites in check. Everyone hated the Kurds..who I had heard were Christians, and a minority. So are the Kurds , Christian or not ? And are they part of the sect of Islam ?

Kurds are an ethnic group, not a religion.

The majority are Muslims. There are also Kurdish Christians, Jews, and Alevis (Muslim "heretics").

Im no expert, but i would amost be willing to bet that the Kurds are not Christian. They are just another branch of Islam. For the most part everything else you said was right. Saddam was a Sunni, the Sunnis controlled Iraq while Saddam was President. They kept the Shiites in check-and at the bottom of the ladder is the Kurds. They are somewhat like "Nomads" if you will who mostly live in the northern half of Iraq, near its border with Turkey i believe.

Kurds are an ethnic group, not a religious one. They are primarily Sunni Muslims, but they also have among them some Christians and Shiites. There is no Kurdish branch of Islam.

80% of Muslims are Sunni, but in Iraq, Shiites make up about 65% of the population.
