as you know we've definitaly proven parts of the bible wrong.
the bible has little to nothing on evolution as well as other old belifes.

so, christians excuse this with a swift "human error" and promptly
celebrate another successful dismissal of common sense

so to you christians, why not the rest of it? whose to say the 10
commandments arnt actually the 10 sins and vise versa? maybe we misinterpereted that too? why hack your life into little pieces,
obey a piece of text that was written by humans that didnt even understand what lightning was? why belive it? your not even allowed to question yourself why not? the whole thing follows no logic or reason to have faith.

I'm not sure if this is a genuine question or just a rant against how crap christians have been. So I'm going to treat it as the former and hopefully aleviate the later in the process.

Sounds like you've been given a pretty screwed up idea of Christianity. I think I'd be an agnostic aswell if that's what I'd heard.

I know it's not uncommon for Christians to be anti-intellectual, throw their brains out the window and avoid any difficult quesitons about what they believe.

It was never supposed to be like that, however. If you check out Jesus he advocated loving God with all your mind - not switching it off, putting your hands over your ears and singing "Kum by Ya".

I'm doing a theology degree at Oxford University in the UK (training to be a pastor) and I know a lot of Christians who don't have this closed minded approach. If our faith is really worth it's salt then we don't have anything to fear in questioning it.

So here are a few of the things that Christians here believe.
Genesis 1-2 is written in the style of Hebrew Poetry so was never intended to be taken as a science book... we have no problem with the idea that evolution is HOW God made the world - the point of Gen 1-2 is to systematically take the things that the neighbouring tribes worshipped as gods (from most powerful to least) and say that Yahweh made them.

Not sure what people have told you about the rest of your question... it doesn't make a huge amount of sense to an intellegent christian in the UK. But it sounds like they missed the whole point of Christianity.

Jesus agreed with you - the 10 comandments and living your life by a long list of "Thou shalt not..."s hacks your life into peices. You spend all your time feeling guilty because you're trying to live upto an impossible goal.

That's why he lived them perfectly, then offered us his status in place of ours - so we get to be connected to the unpolluted God who is perfectly true, perfectly kind, perfectly good etc.
And it's this connection that makes us more like Jesus in our lives...

Ironically your questions sounds a bit like the rants of Martin Luther (the 16th century monk who invented evangelicalism).
He basically thought "There must be more than this...!"

And he found there was - his big discovery was grace - the fact that it is God who sorts things out - not us who try to reach him.

I hope this has been a bit helpful and you find answers to your questions

It doesnt make you undesirable in case you dont beleive. the country became outfitted on non secular beliefs yet over years God has been bumped off through society. we've a lot interior the way of medical concept that still eliminates God from any equation of coming up the international or guy for that count number number. Now i imagine in case you beleive it comes out of your household and extremely no the position else. No in case you dont beleive and there is a god im particular he knows. Now God is declared to be forgiving and merciful so dont trouble too a lot about it.
