Most dollar stores buy closeouts, overstocks, surplus, excess inventories, job lots, store returns, and discontinued product lines from major Liquidators

That will be a tough one... unless you can find a vegan store to serve all your needs. Even the health food stores I go to sell animal products. Ideally, that would be a great option for a vegan, but I don't know how many people have found these types of stores. I will not buy anything in a pet store that sells anything breathing (including crickets) and I don't go to McDonald's at all anymore since discovering the fries have "beef flavouring" on them. Apart from the 3 or more restaurants that sell vegan options near me (and they are 20 minutes away), probably the only thing available to me is a 12 grain bagel with peanut butter at Tim Horton's or fries and a side salad at Wendy's.... slim pickings!! I'd rather cook for myself. The link below might be able to help you find something that suits you.

Sometimes they can get a delivery that had been put in the "not for major supermarket" pile, maybe a load was partially damaged, andthe salvaged goods are then sold by discount stores. I know that in FLA it is legal to sell outdated food and this too is often the case. Check experation dates. Never buy batteries there, but most thing such as cleaning supplies are just as good as expensive brands. But sometimes with things like tools, you get what you pay for.

It's called economics. Compare the way these discounted stores look to a really popular expensive store, since they are not to worried about presentation, or the perfect lighting, they don't have to pay a lot so you don't either. On the other hand if you go to a store with perfect lighting, great employees, and great presentation, those things cost money and that comes from your pocket.

I have found that with Dollar Stores and grocers such as Sav-A-Lot offer there own generic brand as regular merchandise and name brand items are probably things that they were able to get for a lesser cost, therefore a lower price for you, but not always the case. As far as food goes check ur dates, even canned items and non-perishables have been labeling sale dates and "gauranteed fresh before" dates. FYI wholesalers such as Sams club can be a hit or miss and you really have to pay attention when buying their merchandise in bulk. But when it is a good deal its usually pretty significant. Hope that helps :)

The food is a lower quality. Take the Buddy Bars for example. They aren't nearly as good as the Nutty Bars from Little Debbie. They're just a generic brand, that's all. Although it wouldn't hurt to check the dates. Many of them use the Julian dating system (why they still use it I'll never know), so if you can't find one ask a sales associate.

Good question. They usually buy out companies that are going out of business and pass the savings on to u.But beware, the off brands usually taste different than the name brands.I found that out when i went to Aldi and bought canned soup.TERRABLE!

Some stores just have a higher profit margin than others.

Maybe some more than others? Did you ever look at the food for sale at the volunteers of america,...that is the place where I would worry...

for one thing it,s actually not even "real food".anything that is pkg in plastic wrap, boxes etc is not real food at all.there are so many pesticides/herbicides,gmo,s , sugar, msg etc in these things so they don,t spoil and how they were grown etc is a crime to our humanity as the world is now experiencing in health conditions etc. they should not even be allowed to give this this stuff away in reality,,be advised, seriously..
