the problem is not what punishment to give, the problem is crime prevention.
i deal with convicted offenders at my office. the common thread they all have is:
-lack of good parents
-lack of good role models
-the belief that what they are doing isn't really 'wrong', they just got caught and hope to not get caught next time
-not worried about jail....they've been there before and they will be there again. it is not a big deal.....everyone they know goes to jail
the problem is a societal issue and a parenting skills issue.
other than that. i say chop the hands off thieves, castrate sex offenders, shoot murderers, and forget throwing all this money into prisons and expensive executions. we aren't solving the problem by making the punishments harsh. by the time an offender has reached punishment, they are already beyond help.

This is a touchy subject. I believe that when the states shut down alot of the state mental hospitals crime rates skyrocketed. These people have no place to go...you cant exactly walk in an emergency room and say "I hear voices" they send you away...only to find you don't have enough money to pay for a psychiatrist or the anti-psychotic meds for that matter.
HOWEVER....these people are not in prison for singing too loudly in church...these are murderers, rapists...violent people...im sorry, but in that case, i dont mind my tax dollars going to the prisons. My fiance is a corrections officer, and he doesnt say much about work...but from what he does say, im GLAD there are prisons. And if you do your research, its actually cheaper to keep a prisoner for life than to execute them...to execute them costs millions of dollars...where as feeding them 3 times a day is only a few dollars. Not to mention...in a recent study, inmates are outliving non incarcerated people by many years. they can't be having it too bad.

I feel that career criminals that are repeat offenders over and over that have proven cant function in society should be executed instead of being a burden on the working society,no life in prison or continuous sentencing from time to time, straight to the chair or to get the injection, that wont happen, so option 2 is to take these same criminals and put them on the front line of foot infantry of any and every war and bring our honest men and women home and let the trash do our dirty work that way if they get killed OH WELL, saves us money on both accounts, i should run for president!! would ya vote for me??

Theres a charity that will allow you to pay off your community service
hours my brother and a friend used them how it works is if you have 80
hours it equals $80.00 you can make a donation threw there website and
they send you out your paperwork, we looked into this charity first before
making a donation to make sure they were legal and yes indeed they are a
501c3 nonprofit charity they are called Uplifting Kids they are a charity
my brother was soooo happy because it kept him from going to jail, the
courts was not trying to offer him an extention so he paid them off he
emailed and called them and someone got back to him right away he needed
this paper from the charity like asap and they charged him for the
overnight which between 40.00 and 45.00 dollars and an expedited charge of
$50.00 , they did a professional letterhead and sent it out to him, he was
toooo happy and he took the paper to the courts and everything was ok they
are also court approved all over the world I couldnt be more pleased with
this charity they saved my brothers and his friends freedom from going to
jail, they also have alot of other programs if you can't afford to pay the
hours off you can do a fundraise you can reach them by via email at
email@upliftingkids.org and also by phone at 1-855-581-9111 and there
website is www.upliftingkids.org call them they can help you and if you
need a professional letterhead urgent then let them know, I wouldn't try
theses other places online they are not legit this is the only one i could
find for my brother that is legit and not a scam and they followed threw
with a tracking number and we signed for the document so check them out
however you can't get no refunds if you decide not to go with them. They
are doing great things for people all over the world and kids. Check them
out they are even open late hours they help with court community service
and also school community service as well, you can also do a fundraise for
your hours they have alot of pretty cool programs they are great oh not to mention they are also on the Irs website as well to verify this charity

If prison were that bad, do you think people would be committing the amount of crime they are? I think that if you dreaded going to prison like you used to dread going to the principle's office in school, there would be a lot less crime, especially for juveniles. Public lynchings, hard labor in prison, these are deterrents. A padded cell with a TV and a Nintendo are not.

prison are not the best living conditions but if you put them under house arrest and then when they served their time they will deffinatly do it again.... prison can be harsh but i rather see them in prison serving their time instead of under house arrest... ive met some people who were in prison and they have totally changed their lives one of them is going to schools telling students how horrible its in there and how he was in there because of selling and doing drugs...
i think we should punish some people the way they do in other countries... it was either china or japan where if you are caught tagging a wall you get 10 lashes with a bamboo cane... there was an american do tagged a wall and was sentanced to that but it was later reduced to 5 lashed because americans got upset over the whole thing

Nah, even in exile they would need to be fed, clothed, and housed. I believe all rapists, murderers, and child sex offenders should be executed after found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The threat of execution works most of the time, if those who think about committing such crimes consider they will be executed and not sitting in prison.
Additionally, those who commit the most heinous crimes against society don't deserve to live in it...even under incarceration.

I agree with the above statement...but if they commited very violent crimes...where without a resonable doubt it was them, they need to be executed. Like sadaam...within 30 days...some of them are sitting on death row for years..its like a joke to them. Especially here in PA...we have only executed 3 people since 1976...I'm sorry, but thats a joke...they need to start following in Texas' footsteps...give some of these people what they deserve.

If we followed your suggestion of execution, we would be a barbaric country. This is what Hitler did and Saddam Hussein.
I am for the death penalty for killers of children, but to execute a criminal because we don't want to pay the taxes for his confinement is barbaric.
