I recorded a film off the TV and then wanted to watch it on my computer. However, it didnt recognise it and made out as if the disc was blank when I knew it wasnt. If anyone could help me i would be most grateful.

If you used a DVD recorder (not just a player), then you need to Finalize the DVD. Somewhere in the menus is a Finalize item that writes all of the info a normal DVD player or computer drive needs to see to recognize it as a DVD. Without that, the players and computers just think it's garbage.

To play a DVD you're able to of course have the DVD hardware yet you're able to even have utility to allow you to play a DVD. PowerDVD or some thing like that's mandatory. you're able to have have been given some thing unfastened with the DVD hardware while you bought it. or you are able to acquire a unfastened DVD participant from the internet - there are a lot obtainable. wish this helps, solid success.
