Do you just devolve and fight non-reason with non-reason (ie, violence) to protect your rights? Even if it means you will likely be jailed or worse in a society that is majority anti-reason?

I think I get the gist of what you are trying to say,

and yes. Nonsensical thinking and no reasoning is contagious. Everyone has to go down to the lowest denominator to 'reason' with the unreasonable because those who are incapable of

say, for instance, using their own mind to weigh out serious ethical issues, will never be able to get to the level of the more broad minded sophisticated brains who are capable of complex thinking.

So, yeah, we always have to bring it down for the retards.
That is why it's important to look at intellectualism as a worthy and "cool" trait and intellectuals and 'like minds' need to stick together.

There is power in groups.

imho, that sounds like being on the proverbial merry-go-round, doing the same things over and over hoping for a different result...
if they only way to deal with them ends one up in trouble with the law and results in loss of freedom, fines, probation etc; it may be best to move away from these...
