if you dont want to grill it i suggest using the broiler.
If its an electric oven keep the door open a crack to keep the temp high.

Stove top grill is perfect. That's the only way I "cook" my steaks. Get it good & hot, dribble a little evoo & sear the divil out of it first one side & then the other. The length of time depends on the thickness of the steak, as well as how you like it--rare--so forth. I let it rest about 6 minutes so it retains its juices. Really great with a compound butter on it. I'd never, ever put it in the oven. That would surely dry it out. If you don't have a stove top grill, a shallow skillet will work as well--but don't use non-stick; you can't put the heat on high enough.
Edit: Yikes! Put me in a box & FedX me to hell! I forgot all about the broiler, because mine hasn't worked for two years! You got some great answers--lots of thumbs up from me...

Best way to cook steak...make sure it is a good cut of meat. Season with basic "all season" dry rub on both sides. Put on grill and cook first side for about 4-5 minutes (depending on temp) turn and cook another 4-5 minutes. Turn once more if you want it med and then again if you want it well done.
Here is a cool site on cooking.

You could broil it in the oven by putting the rack as close to the top as possible and choose BROIL on the heat setting, usually 500 degrees. To catch the juices, put it in a oven safe pan, if you do not have a broiling pan.

I say broiled, as it allows the excess fat to drip off and still keeps that yummy char-broiled flavor!
TIP - With about 30 seconds to broil, crumble a little bleu cheese on the top. It melts to just the right consistancy and it is SOOOO good!!

Grilled. Get it brown and crispy both sides at very high heat and then finish them in the oven at 400 degrees. Don't let the inside temperature go over 155 degrees.

Marinade, whatever you do. It will help keep the steak moist and gives it a little more flavor. If you don't BBQ try using the broiler in your oven.
