Hello. I have sickle cell anemia as well, and I'm 14. I only have a trait, which means I don't have it fully. My case is very mild. I've only gotten sick rather bad a few times, and if you've been doing well for a while, then you should be okay. Furthermore, since you haven't been sick for a while, you're case doesn't sound severe either, which means it should affect your health very little in later years, as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle (as in your diet, exercise, yada yada yada...). Hope this helped. And good luck. ;]

definitely. sickle cell anemia is a disease caused when one base in the DNA is altered. normal red blood cells are flexible, meaning that they can wedge into tight spaces. if red blood cells are sickle, then they are hard. It is difficult for them to go into small spaces. For example, if an artery in your heart vein is clogged, and you have sickle cell anemia, then your blood cells are too stiff to go through the small opening. this is what causes heart problems.

you CAN die from most things, including drinking too much water. If you have concerns it is best to speak with a health care provider and ask them all of your questions as specifically as possible- that way you dont get overly freaked out by people telling you horror stories. for more info on sickle cell the following website may be helpful:

sickle cell anemia, is a very complicated and serious disease, your blood cells malform and start to clog up the capillaries in areas of the body, respiratory and kidney function can be drastically affected, among other vital organs if you or someone you know has it ...please read up on the disease, the best way to handle a sickle cell crisis, is early medical treatment before it gets at its worse....good luck
