A lot of people say that agnostics are atheists because they both have a lack of belief in a God. I understand that but I'd rather call myself an 'agnostic' because I feel I do not know if there is a God and I don't even know if it's possible to know (slightly different from saying that it's impossible to know). I feel it's impossible for ME to know right now but maybe other people do know the truth (though probably not). I also like to separate myself from the number of atheists who say 'there is no God' since I don't know if that's true.
Many people are comfortable calling themselves an 'atheist' based on the simple fact that they lack belief while others insist that a God is an impossibility and one does not can cannot exist.

Atheism is a lack of belief in deities of any sort.
Agnosticism is the belief that it is impossible to KNOW God as people often claim to. This makes it impossible to either prove or disprove God's existence. You can be an agnostic and still follow a religion, though there are plenty who don't.

Agnostics are either open minded or ambivalent. Atheists are usually just extremely angry at all Christians, and to a lesser extent other religions as well.

Agnosticism: Not knowing whether there is a God or not (Gnosis = Greek for "Know")
Atheism: Lacking faith that a God exists (Theos = Greek for "God")
Personally I consider myself an atheistic agnostic.
(A hard atheist believes that there is, in fact, no God.)
