wow...there are some really misinformed people out there.

Mormons can and do use birth control (It's catholics that have a stand against that one).

Garments can be taken off.

Saturday is like any other non-sabbath day

there is no official policy on caffeine

In a nutshell:
No Coffee
No Tea
No Smoking
No addictive drugs (heroine, marijuana, crack, etc)
No sex before marriage and fidelity afterwards
No pornography

...and these are strongly discouraged
No R-Rated movies
No swearing
Date after you're 16 or older

We are encouraged to:
go on missions (if you're a young man)
Marry and have children
Have a 1 year supply of food and emergency supplies
eat healthy
do "all things in moderation"
study the Scriptures
Attend church
Go to the temple periodically
Do family history
Obey the laws of the land
Pay tithing (10% of your "increase")
Keep the 10 commandments
...and basically follow the teachings of Christ.

Although there are a few things that must or must not be done, many things really depend on the individual family. For example, it is not church doctrine to not have caffeine or wait until 16 to date. However, some households/families abide by this anyway. There’s nothing wrong either way. Some considered sins are any sexual activities without, and only with, your legal spouse (adultery, premarital, polygamy, etc). Breaking any government law. Breaking the “Word of Wisdom” (no coffee, tea, tobacco; but even then some things are up to interpretation). Not going to church can be a sin, but is rectified by at least trying to go every week. And other things that other churches consider sins. In all, everyone tries in their own way to live the best life they possibly can.

Strive to follow the teachings of Christ.
That's really it. However, the ones that are more peculiar to Mormons, include following the Word of Wisdom (like the ones you mentioned), and in an effort to be and stay chaste and virtuous, no dating until your 16, although you can group date, strongly encouraged to develop your own testimony through prayer, pondering and scripture study, and in an effort to provide teens with a strong gospel foundation, attend Seminary. Seminary is usually held before school at church for High School teens. In Utah and possibly other "high Mormon" areas it may be held during school. Each year they focus on one of four books of scripture (OT, NT, BoM, or Doctrine & Covenants). There is also a college age version that is thought of as being more optional and includes more topics, especially at BYU, called Institute.

I guess those are the "biggies", although I could be missing a few. But generally it's just trying your best to follow the teachings of Christ, and repenting when you don't. Most of the things that make us peculiar/weird are teachings developed to help us follow those two main things. We're big on family, and have a unique perspective on life before birth and after death, so there are teachings associated with those two aspects of life as well.

Okay some of you are really dogging a faith you have no knowledge of and that is not right. Basic rules are follow the bible and the book of mormon and the doctrin and covenents. Now some of the rules are like no tobacco, no caffine, no alcohol, no pre-marital sex and stuff like that same as a lot of other churches. and would you people get off the special underwear thing. Jeez I swear you people act like your five or something

Suppose to eat good, a lot of vegatables and grains. Although caffein is not against their religion many people think it is. Birth control is fine, and they encourage smart family planning. They encourage everyone to get an education (male and female). Really though, it comes down to the teachings of Jesus, which are important to follow and which most Christians do, like church respecting and caring for neighbors, etc. To go to the temple you must be a very obedient member, meaning you must pay your tithing (10% of income), regularly attend all church meetings, etc.).

It depends on how strict the ward is where you go to church.
Not all Mormons avoid caffiene. Only Mormons who have passed certain rites have to wear the special undergarments. Only some are allowed inside the Temple in Salt Lake City. Other than believing in Joseph Smith's teachings, they function like most protestant churches. Be good to your neighbor, be faithful. Those kind of things. I have found that they are very loyal to their church and church members. They do not condone multiple spouses.

mormons believe in christ. hence the title, "the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. we use his name reverently and we abide by his teachings also found in the bible. we refrain from sex, dating until 16, drugs, alcohol, swearing, ect. we also don't bag on other religions. we try to be law-abiding citizens. we don't practice polygamy. we follow council from our living prophet today and those who's writings are found in scripture. because so many people either don't know about our religion, or confuse themselves and others by it, we send out missionaries to preach about what we believe. we treat spriritual or relgious principles with respect. and we don't stay within our own group. thousands of missionaries go out and talk to complete strangers for two years. we give service by care packages, food and clothing to those who don't have them. i have many friends who don't believe everything i do, but THAT'S OKAY. the people who thinks is funny to just joke about what we believe shows their disrespect and ignorance.

You CAN have caffine if you want
You CAN have birth control
We really are not what everyone thinks. We do belive in waiting for marriage to have sex and we focus on Family. It is NOT a cult and it makes me very angry when people talk bad about it. It really is not all that different from other christian religions. and we do NOT practice poligamy.
