Please give me a true and honest answer. And please don't joke about it. I really want to know... what is your relation with you earthly father like?

Very very close. My relationship with my dad is one of the best ones I have. I love him very much and feel like we are more really good friends than father and son, which is awesome. I love my dad.

Fine. He has been an atheist much longer than I but never forced that belief (or lack thereof) on me or my siblings. I went to visit him today but he was off doing something with my uncles. I did however talk to him on the phone this afternoon. Oh and I love him and tell him so every once in a while (not too often as we are both manly men and get uncomfortable with that kinda stuff).

Peace!
I know why you asked that question. It has something to do with a theory on why there are athiests.
Friend, it is better to leave them alone. Some of them ask questions to be informed. Others are not very nice; consider yourself blessed if you encounter one like that. They are a test for all Christians.

This is a convoluted, ambiguous question if I ever saw one. You're talking about apples & oranges. I haven't a clue what Atheists & their relationships with their fathers have to do with each other. Or anything.

Edit: I didn't intend to sound mean spirited, but if you'd been just a little more clear, maybe you'd have gotten better answers.

Well, my 'earthly' father, or as I like to call him, my paternal, is pleasant.
We don't live very close so we don't see each other often but we talk to each other every other month or so, sometimes more.
We are somewhat alike, we don't argue, we avoid conflict and we get on fine....it's civil....we have a nice bond.
He's an atheist too.

HITAN ( Democracy in Heaven )
--goal is to overthrow the CREATOR and install democracy in Heaven.

I am not an Athiest but formed my own religion which encourages all to find a faith / idea to follow.
My dad a Jehovah Witness is happy that I found something.

an attempt at PC chair psychology? well, okay maybe the relationship one has/had with one's dad might reflect how one might feel about the concept of a patriarchal deity, like maybe he wasn't around so you don't believe in him or something. but in the same line of reasoning one might wonder what kind of relationship the worshipers of the Bible god had with their dads. the Bible god is cruel, wrathful and jealous and is apt to play favorites between one child and another or sacrifice his children to his need for revenge, an abusive "do as I say not as I do" kind of father, a father who needs complete obedience or extreme punishment follows, a father who prefers his male children above his female children. a father who will ultimately destroy a beautiful planet and consign most of his children to eternal torture.

yep... ya have to wonder what kind of relationship the Bible god worshipers had with their "earthly fathers, whether abuse equates to love for them, torture equates to justice, like a hostage's misplaced loyalty to a kidnapper.

Some people have this conviction that atheists have bad "child - father" relationships and this leads to a denial of the "Heavenly father", a.k.a. God. I don't know exactly where this idea began, but it is quite atrocious. I know Christians with crappy relationships with their fathers. So? What does that mean? Well, they have crappy relationships with their fathers. No more, no less.

I personally have a great relationship with my father. I'm agnostic. I have a great relationship with my mom, brothers, roommate, etc. Just and case you were wondering.

Great
..."my EARTHLY father" is the only one I have and will ever have. He believes in God, but gave me the freedom to choose (or not choose) whatever religion I wish, and he respects my beliefs.

He's dead, so I don't have one anymore, thanks.

In the past, he was frequently working nights and sleeping days. He had a hard time relating to two independent sons, but was good enough to let us explore for our own answers. Despite being Mormon, he was actually a pretty reasonable fellow.
