There are several types of 1099. A 1099-INT means you were paid interest. A 1099-DIV means stocks you owned paid dividends. Certain government payments are reported on a 1099-G. The link below is an IRS publication listing the purposes of various types of 1099.

If you just got the 1099, it should relate to the 2006 tax year, not 2004.

To have a filing status as head of household, you have to have at least one dependent. So if you don't, you are NOT head of household to the IRS and should not try to file that way.

A 1099 friom 2004? And you're just getting it now?

1099's can be for a lot of things. Self-employment is one, but you can also get one, for example, for a lottery win larger than the limit for that year, or interest on a savings account. The 1099 will say who it came from, but probably won't say just what it's for. If it doesn't make sense to you, call them and ask.
