i put 2 regular AA batteries in my digital camera and some of my family members say it could mess up the camera because these regular AA batteries have more power in them. is there any professional photographers out there who know a good bit about digital cameras? the camera i use is a sony cybershot. 4.1 mega pixels.

Regular alkilines don't actually have more power than 'digital batteries'. Rechargeable NiMH AAs (your best choice) have more power than standard alkilines. And the amount of power (as in capacity) that a battery has won't affect the camera's performance, it simply provides power for a longer time.

Voltage & Amperage are more important considerations with electronic devices, but all AAs are standardized in those areas.
Use Sanyo rechargeable AAs, with at least 2000 mAh per battery. In a pinch, you can use 'normal' batteries, they just won't last as long as the rechargeables. But they will not hurt your camera (unless they leak, but any battery could do that)

digital cameras are very heavy on AA kind batteries. And while you're procuring inexpensive ones from a marketplace or someplace, they may well be very almost flat once you purchase them. you rather prefer a well-known digicam with a chargeable lithion ion battery - the kind you have will smash the bank in batteries.

You should NEVER use regular Alkaline batteries. They just don't have enough power to operate a camera. Your best option would be to buy rechargeable NiMH batteries (Energizer 2500mAh or similar), plus a charger.
Or if you want to use non rechargeables, then you should only ever use LITHIUM batteries, such as Energizer e2.
Rechargeables are the most cost effective method, though...which will allow up to 500 charges, which is quite a bit.
