Usually you can't use even the vet stuff until they are a certain age... try using a home remedy that will not agitate your dog... I have done this for my garden, and it works great. I found a website taht will be helpful to you and harmless to your puppy.

Consult your veterinarian. Frontline is great, it only targets the cells of the parasites, it will not effect mammalian cells ( you and your pet are both mammals :), and it can be used on 8 week old pups. Capstar kills the live fleas on the pet, begins working in approx. 30 minutes and has a 24 hour duration of effect which means it can be dosed daily if needed to kill live fleas. This won't take care of eggs though, hence the Frontline. You also have to treat the environment; yep, that means the house too. You can wash everything that is washable and vacuum (remember to empty the bag) and then treat the area with sprays available at the veterinarian's office where you can get the Frontline and Capstar. Good luck!

I second the first answer!! Advantix and Frontline are very safe, and can be used on puppies 8 weeks and older. I have used them on puppies as young as 2 weeks old, but that's off label use. Still, I've never had a problem. Call your vet first thing Monday. While you're on the phone, schedule an appt to begin vaccinations. Good Luck!!

in Australia we buy frontline over the counter and there is a formula for 8 weeks and up. I did mine at 10 weeks, all OK. Why not give him an isecticidal bath (there are shampoos for littles available) then use a 'soak in' leave in de-flea rinse - available from decent pet shops? The use your frontline in 2 weeks or so

Actually, you should products sold only by your veterinarian like Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, Capstar, etc. These products are much safer and labeled for use in dogs as young as 6 weeks old. OTC flea medications are very unreliable, highly toxic to you and your pet and even warns of death!

Remember that even if you are treating your puppy for fleas you will never get rid of them if you don't treat your home. The eggs will drop from the puppy and infest your house and the cycle will continue.

Frontline & Advantage from your vet is safe for an 8 week old puppy.
Do NOT use OTC flea products..they are worthless plus they are unsafe.they can cause serious skin burns, neurological issues, seizures & death.
