I would go to your vet and ask for a CAPSTAR tablet for the puppies. It will kill all of the fleas in about 20 minutes, it is very safe, and it is not expensive.

Consult your veterinarian. Frontline is great, it only targets the cells of the parasites, it will not effect mammalian cells ( you and your pet are both mammals :), and it can be used on 8 week old pups. Capstar kills the live fleas on the pet, begins working in approx. 30 minutes and has a 24 hour duration of effect which means it can be dosed daily if needed to kill live fleas. This won't take care of eggs though, hence the Frontline. You also have to treat the environment; yep, that means the house too. You can wash everything that is washable and vacuum (remember to empty the bag) and then treat the area with sprays available at the veterinarian's office where you can get the Frontline and Capstar. Good luck!

In the old days, before chemical treatments, we would give the puppy a warm bath every single day, and occasionally rinse with white vinegar. Fleas do drown, but most went down the drain. This is a safe and very effective method.

there is a secondary advantage to this: the puppy learns that baths are OK and never fights a bath when it becomes an adult.

OH not to mention you are not petting and kissing poison chemicals.

I second the first answer!! Advantix and Frontline are very safe, and can be used on puppies 8 weeks and older. I have used them on puppies as young as 2 weeks old, but that's off label use. Still, I've never had a problem. Call your vet first thing Monday. While you're on the phone, schedule an appt to begin vaccinations. Good Luck!!

Actually, you should products sold only by your veterinarian like Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, Capstar, etc. These products are much safer and labeled for use in dogs as young as 6 weeks old. OTC flea medications are very unreliable, highly toxic to you and your pet and even warns of death!

HI I'm almost positive that we used Pert on a kitten we found and it worked wonders we just kept brushing the dead fleas out...I'm pretty sure it's safe for puppies too! Maybe it would be best to call the actual company that makes Pert and ask.. I do know they don't usual make anything for young puppies ...so it's worth a shot

Ask your veterinarian. I'm pretty sure revolution and frontline can be used on young puppies around 8 weeks old. But i am not posotive, so it is best to ask your vet. And Revolution is a perscription medication, so you will have to get it from your vet anyways.

Call the vets in your town, and ask who carries REVOLUTION.
As it is still new, the vets here give the first treatment for free..
It will also get rid of any worms and protects against heartworm as well..
It won't keep them off, but if you bathe him in Dawn dish soap, leaving it on for 5 minutes, it will safely kill all fleas aboard..
