The Church of Latter Day Saints was founded on April 6 1830 by Joseph P Smith Jr. After Joseph and Hyrum Smith's murder in 1844 a split developed in the Chruch between people loyal to the sucession of Joseph P Smith III and people who were loyal to the sucession om Brigham Young. Other then the whole Polygamy thing why is there so much division between the Chruch now. Polygamy was outlawed in 1897. Why is there is still so much division between our similar faiths. I am asking for Mormons, members of the CoC and members of the Restoration to answer this question please.

The Community of Christ had decided years ago to abandon their belief and use of the Book of Mormon--the primary ingredient of scripture in the two faiths. That is why they are no longer called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Further, it was in October 1890 when President Wilford Woodruff renounced the practice of plural marriage for the church. Since that time, anyone guilty of polygamy in the Church suffers excommunication.

Any other divisions between the two faiths is moot.

Mr. Marc: Mormons and LDS (Latter-day Saints) are one and the same.

They teach a different Gospel, and different Jesus than the Bible tells us about !! Therein lies the divisions.
Most churches today are apostates ! They do not do the things Jesus did. They do not agree with him either.
Go to jesuschristians site and read about the churches going against what Jesus actually taught, and the reformation movement is a false teaching also, they still worship on Sundays, and it is not the hallowed sabbath day which is the seal of God. ex. 31:13 ,Prv 7:1-3, Rev 14:12
That movement isnt even supposed to involve itself with politics and government .
Our forefathers made a separation between the church and state for many reasons.

I'm a member of the Christian church. The Christian church church of Christ and Disciples of Christ have the same basic beliefs.
We feel the mormon church is a cult and does not follow the teaching of Jesus Christ.

Their leader is Joseph Smith NOT Jesus.
Here's just a few things that differ;
1-Mormons may be baptized for the dead. The bible says there is one baptism and you must believe and repent before you do this.
2-Mormon's say there are many gods. Bible says there is one.
3-Mormon's say the earth's god was human at one time.
Bible says God is spirit.
4-Mormons say god's have sex. How can a spirit have sex?
5- Mormon's say Adam is God and father of our race. Adam was just a man with sins according to bible.
6- Mormon's say Jesus was a polygamist. Bible only says that Jesus came to die for our sins, he told Peter this was the sole reason he came. He never married at all.
7-Mormon's say you can be married in heaven and have a ceremony here on earth for it. Jesus said we are not married or given in marriage in heaven.
8-Mormon's say that african people were once demon's in heaven, now they have recanted this but this was believed when mormonism started!
Mormonism is a cult and not a christian faith at all.

Because none of them know the true Jesus.
They have alll been misled and are too busy "working their way" to godhood to understand that Jesus is the ONLY way.

(Gal 1:8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

All man made religions are not authorized by God.

(2Co 6:17) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

(1Pe 4:11) If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

(1Co 3:11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

(Mat 15:13) But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

Denominations causes division.

Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1Co 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
(1Co 1:13) Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Jesus says to Peter that he will build his Church in Mat. 16:18.

Notice that Christ did not say that he would build churches. So we are not authorized to name a church after and act of grace or a mans name or anything else, but only Christ.

(Col 3:17) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

(Rom 16:16) Salute one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

Christ purchased the Church with his own blood according to Acts 20:28.
Does he not deserve to have his name as owning the Church?

In Eph. 1:22-23 that the body is the Church.

(Col 1:18) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

(Eph 4:4) There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

(Eph 4:5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

(Eph 4:6) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

(Eph 5:23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.

The only way to be saved is to be a member of his body or Church. Also it says that Christ is the husband of the Church. What husband does not want his wife to take on his name?

How do we become part of the body or Church?

(1Co 12:13) For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Act's 2 is when the Church was first started.

(Act 2:38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

(Act 2:41) Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

(Act 2:47) Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

We are added to the Church and our sins are forgiven when we obey the Gospel, which is defined in 1 Cor 15:1-4 which consists of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

(Act 22:16) And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

(1Pe 3:20) Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

(1Pe 3:21) The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

(Joh 3:5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

For those that say pray the sinner's prayer:

(1Pe 3:12) For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

If you are unrighteous he will not hear you till you obey the Gospel Romans 1:16.

(Jam 2:14) What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Gal 3:26-27 We put on Christ when we are baptized.

Romans 6:4 Buried with Christ in baptism.

Leave the shackles of man made religion and be only a Christian.

(Joh 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

One simple answer: Satan. He knows the true church, He knows the Plan. He does not want others to know - he causes confusion, misconception, lies, hate, all awful, untrue and unclean things against the church. Those who spread the falsehoods are doing his work for him in my opinion.

To Jeanmarie's comments -
"Their leader is Joseph Smith NOT Jesus. "
INCORRECT - Although we love Joseph for the sacrifices he made and are grateful to him, we do not believe he is in any way superior to our Savior, Jesus Christ. We do not worship Joseph. We know him to be a prophet of God.

1-Mormons may be baptized for the dead. The bible says there is one baptism and you must believe and repent before you do this.
Yes, baptism is an ordinance that must be done to enter into our Father's kingdom.
Corinthians 15
29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead crise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
**
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised.
Resurrection is given to all who ever lived. We baptize those who were not in this life, BUT they still have a choice whether or not to accept the ordinance.

2-Mormon's say there are many gods. Bible says there is one.
*Yes, there is one god WE worship. But "worlds" have been created, not just ours. We believe there are other "gods" out there, but we only have one God we worship.

3-Mormon's say the earth's god was human at one time.
Bible says God is spirit.
*We believe in modern revelation and know that God and Jesus Christ have bodies of flesh and bone. Christ even said to his apostles to handle him and see that he had a resurrected body of flesh and bone - thats in the bible.

4-Mormons say god's have sex. How can a spirit have sex?
Again, we know that God has a body of flesh and bone. We believe he created us as spirits first, then Christ created our bodies for our spirit to inhabit on the earth. You're right, spirits cannot have sex.

5- Mormon's say Adam is God and father of our race. Adam was just a man with sins according to bible.
INCORRECT - We do not believe Adam is God. We believe he is the 'father' of all of us because we all descended from his seed physically.

6- Mormon's say Jesus was a polygamist. Bible only says that Jesus came to die for our sins, he told Peter this was the sole reason he came. He never married at all.
*INCORRECT - where are you getting your info? Not from the church. I myself believe it was possible that he was married or at least that he will be someday. I believe he came to fulfill all righteousness and since we believe marriage is an essential ordinance one must enter into to gain exaltation in the Celestial kingdom, I believe at some point he was or will be married. That's just my own opinion, not that of the church.

7-Mormon's say you can be married in heaven and have a ceremony here on earth for it. Jesus said we are not married or given in marriage in heaven.
D&C 132: 15-16
15 Therefore, if a man marry him a wife in the world, and he marry her not by me nor by my word, and he covenant with her so long as he is in the world and she with him, their covenant and marriage are not of force when they are dead, and when they are out of the world; therefore, they are not bound by any law when they are out of the world.
16 Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven, which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory.
Those who do not marry and enter into the new and everlasting covenant of marriage are those whose marriages will not be in force after this life.
D&C 132:19
19 And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths—...and if ye abide in my covenant...it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever.

8-Mormon's say that african people were once demon's in heaven, now they have recanted this but this was believed when mormonism started!
I have never been taught this - ever - and I have been a member my whole life.
