The music that windows plays when you log on does not play and I even formatted the HDD, but that wasn't for that reason though, but still. I went to C:\\WINDOWS/MEDIA and looked for the sound file. It is there and it works, which is what is confusing me

Go into the control panel and click on "sounds and audio devices." Click on the "sounds" tab. Scroll down to where it says Start Windows and highlight it. Then browse for the .wav file you want to play.

why do you want it to play? I have the same OS, but until you mentioned it i didn't notice. Frankly, I'm glad--that music....it's annoying.
