I've heard that they calice your mouth and that they hurt, so are there any ways I can prevent that or help before-hand?

Not much to do before hand to help prevent the sores in your mouth that may occur, but I do suggest a general cleaning of your teeth by the dentist before you get braces. When you get your braces they will take a few days for you to adjust to them. To prevent calices or sores, use the wax the dentist will give you to create a barrier between your lip and the metal. This will help a lot. I'm going through this myself. The wax helps. Also there is a lip-guard if it gets bad.

If you need any more questions answered don't hesitate to ask me :)

Actually, there's not much you can do beforehand. But, Advil and soft foods are the best when you first get them on...and when they tighten or change your wires.
Stay away from cold foods if your having pain as well.(This causes the wires to contract and can make them fit even tighter.)

Sometimes, the brackets or wires may rub the inside of your cheek or lip. If this happens, rinse your mouth with salt-water twice daily...it will help the sore spot heal quicker.
Also, the orthodontist should give you soft beeswax to cover the parts of the braces that are causing the most trouble. If you run out, ask for more or you can even buy it at Walmart (ask the pharmacist there, if you can't find it.) Try to keep one at home and one at school or in your purse so you're never without it.

Get used to spending more time and attention to teethbrushing. This will pay off in the long run.
ALWAYS follow your ortho's instructions & you'll be done with the braces sooner!
Good luck. You'll do fine. The rewards are worth it!! =)

well most people got through braces so u have to be brave my cousin haves braces he says he didnt felt a thing when they gave him medecin for his mouth so he wont feel nothin so u have to stay strong and be brave good luck

heres some info. on braces:
Braces are great and they straighten your teeth really fast but make sure you keep plenty of wax on you because the brackets rub aweful sores on the inside of your lips and mouth which at times can be so painful you’ll not be able to eat. In the beginning before you get your braces put on, you’ll have to wear spacers and those are the worst part of all! Say good bye to hard crunchy food for about 2 weeks!

braces will always hurt in the begginning but you get used to them after a little bit of time. On the upside when you get your braces off you will not look terrible with over bite or croked teeth what you can do to help might just brush your teeth and gums alot before you get them on

Don't worry about it. They only hurt for a little when you first get them on, max a day or two, and it's really not that bad. And I'm afraid there's really nothing you can do beforehand.

I would, however, savor your last chance to eat chewy candy/bagels. Most orthodontists will get mad if you eat that stuff while having braces...(not like everyone doesn't anyway)

you can't really prepare for braces...just don't think about it...thinking about something before it happens usually makes it worse...you will have some pain in the beginning, but it will go away soon after wards...but your check-ups to the orthodontist every 6 weeks will hurt for a couple of times, but then it will feel better...good luck

Nope! The orthodontist will give you wax to put on the rough spots.

Before you go to get them, make sure you eat....apples, corn nuts, popcorn, and anything else you won't be able to eat for the entire time you have your braces.
