Yes, the wine is actually turned into the blood of Christ (it still has the accidental appearance of wine though). There is a Church in Italy that still has the chalice where the wine miraculously changed into coagulated blood clots at the bottom of the cup. The Host that was consecrated at the same time changed into actual heart muscle. This Parish disbelieved the transubstantiation teaching of the Church and so this miracle was allowed as a witness to the world. Look it up -- just Google Eucharistic Miracles. The wine used is a rich sacramental wine. Most diocese get it from a religious supply store.

If the blood of Christ is really wine, what type do churches buy or prefer for communion services?
your question is humorous!
the wine is not the literal blood of Jesus.
for the benifit of those who think that fermented wine was used at the least supper.
the last supper happened at The Feast of unleven bread. during this time all yeast must be eradicated from the dwelling to be worthy of of the feast. yeast is associated with sin. the Blood of Jesus is sinless. fermented wine cannot represent the Blood of the sinless one. wine in ancient days also referred to what we now call juice. interesting enough when the grapes are crushed the juice collected is known as the blood of the grape. to allow the juice to ferment would allow the presence of yeast in a feast GOD had strickly forbidden any form/kind of yeast to be present.
why would we not have yeast in the bread but allow it in the wine?
communion is a natural event that puts us in touch with the spiritual. Jesus spoke of this when He told the Religious authority of the day ..."eat my flesh & drink my blood" they did not understand the spiritual implications then.
communion is a serious matter. to make light of it or to misrepresent the matter is one that could put you in harms way.
Paul spoke about many who are weak, sick, and even have died prematurely because they do not properly discern theBody of Christ.
I pray that you will study things before you half knowingly make light and put youself in harms way.

Judging by the taste, I'd say it's ordinary grape juice left out in the sun for too long.

Peace!
Many parishes use Mompo. I think it is a dessert wine because it is sweet.
God bless
