I have cavities on my front teeth which causes a gap between them. Would veneers work to fix that? I really want veneers instead of fillings.

You can get whatever your heart desires, just as long as your dentist is willing to do so, after all you are paying. If the treatment that you want, is not adequate according to your dentist, he might not do it, even if you say you'll sign a waiver. He'll probably not want to do it to avoid problems especially if you live in California because for some reason, people like to sue other people for stupid things.

If you really want veneers and your dentist won't do it, you are always entitled to get a second opinion.

Another thing about veneers or crowns vs. fillings is that aside from removing decayed tissue, your dentist will also remove healthy tissue to make room for the veneer/crown (bridges too). Some people object to that and opt for the more conservative filling.

I'm a dentist.

If your cavities are big enough to leave spaces, you've got bigger problems to deal with.

At that point, you might be looking at root canals and crowns. Keep in mind, though, that all porcelain crowns are every bit as cosmetic as veneers. More so, in fact, as more tooth structure is taken away, thus leaving more room for the lab (who makes the crown) to put a thin layer of translucent porcelain over the surface and make it look like a natural enamel.

No, if you don't get rid of the cavity it will eat through the nerves in your teeth and cause an infection. You'll have to get it filled.
