We havent talked forever cuz we used to not get along. Anyways, right now he's signed on aim and I want to IM him but I dont know if it would annoy him or not... should I?

I say go for it. You havnt talked to him for a long time and I bet he'll be happy to hear from you. You and him not getting along is in the past so yep yep contact him!

Never be afraid to say your sorry to anyone. But seeing as to how he is an ex I would simply leave an IM message and let that be the end of it. Once you make a break from any relationship you can never go back. It will never ever be the same. Good luck.

me and my ex were on bad terms for about 7 months after a on and off six year relationship. i just called him out the blue one day and now he is my best friend. go ahead all you can do is give it a try! good luck!
