yes, you can join the army. They take foreign nationals as long as you're legal. If you have prior military service, so much the better.

I went to the Go Army site. I couldn't find out anything about foreign service. I've heard of Mexicans getting U.S. citizenship by serving in the military. I'd suggest contacting a recruiter. The same site will let you do that. The recruiter should be able to give you the straight dope. If your British I'd recommend the Marines or Navy. The U.S. marines was patterned after the British marines so I think you'd find it familiar. The Army is patterned after the French Army. Although I remember ex-Marines in my Army unit they didn't seem to have much trouble adapting, other than the marching commands are different and you don't ever call non-coms sir in the Army.

If I was a young man I'd check into it. They are offering $40,000 bonuses for enlistment. Pretty good deal.

Yes. According to the military, you have to be a permanent resident alien, if not a U.S. citizen, to join up. Having served in the British army and being a UK citizen, you should have no problem gettin permanent resident status. However, keep in mind that your problems may not be solved by joining up. The grass is not always greener on the other side. If you do manage to sign up, look into furthering your education and acquiring skills beyond the Infantry. Such as computer skills and the like. Something that could be applied to the civilian sector. The U.S. Army has fantastic programs for doing just that.

As for a question you asked on another site about whether Americans don't like Scots:

Americans generally like the Brits, the answers you were seeing were in reponse to us taking shots from a "friend" and "ally". As I said in a comment I posted (which you probably can't read), come to New York City and see how the Brits and Scots are treated (like brothers) and then see how Americans are treated in London (like second-class dirt). Americans hold no grudges against the Brits like a few of them, if not many, seem to have against us.

I have friends from both Sheffield and Edinburgh (who, by the way, think like you do).

It happens there is quite some anti US people obtainable, take youtube as an occasion very almost each and every militia video has damaging comments. Why? people ought to lots time... for the main area those people are not in any militia and are purely expressing a million persons opinion. US military & British military is a brotherhood.

Actually I thought that you could, I figured our military would take anyone who was willing to serve. However, that is not entirely correct. Refer to this website for the details.

You can enlist ONLY if you come here legally and if your green card has enough time on it for you to be able to serve. Once you are here, then you can enlist. Once you enlist, you can become a US citizen in 3 years time rather than the typical 5 years.

Good luck!

Joining the US Army would be the last thing i do because they aren't trained as good as the British Army. The US Army sucks.
The UK has been voted the best nation in the world, the US was near the bottom of the list.

It's been a long time since I served (Vietnam), but I know they used to take foreigners. I think they'll let anyone who'll fight sign up during wartime, and we're sure as hell in a war now! I'd talk to a recruiter if I were you. They can tell you for sure how it is today.

Why not? We have had many non-citizens serve in our army. Some have been given citizenship faster than they ordinarily would have because of their service.

Generals are always looking for cannon fodder. Good luck.

Do you have 10 fingers and 10 toes? Do you have a pulse? can you count over 50? if you answered yes to these questions than I pretty sure the army will take you. They take almost anyone without a felony record. Which I must say is kinda sad.
