You must ask a trouser snake yourself! Chances are they'll play dead at first, so I recommend a small pair of electrodes and a thick wooden paddle to coerce them into talking. If they suddenly rise, you'll need to immerse them in freezing icewater, and keep paddling away. At some point you may feel a heavenly sensation overtake you, which means you've reached a spiritual consensus and union with the Trouser Snake. You may be blessed with a generous spattering of Holy Water or something similar, so rejoice if it comes to this point!

It's all something to do with the food chain. The trouser snake, along with its relative genus, Alabamus Africanus Serpentis, keep the feline population in check. If not for the existence of these species, felines would run rampant and that certainly would not do.

In Texas, those snakes are called "Coach Whips".
Mosquitoes? -- I would think that they have a purpose in the over-all scheme of things. What purpose, I have no idea.
Oh, yeah.
My Purple Martins are awesome, and they feed on Mosquitoes, primarily.

Trouser snakes don't bite and spit unless you rub them the wrong way.
