How is it different from shaving and waxing yourself? Is it embarrasing?

They actually know what they are doing. You really shouldn't be too embarrassed. You may be at first but generally they will make you feel at ease and it gets easier with each visit. They are professionals and do this all the time.
As far as the difference in procedures...shaving doesn't last very long and I have never had great success with any other waxing or hair removal products. Waxing is a little painful but it lasts a LOT longer than shaving and also get less and less painful with each visit. You also don't have to worry so much about ingrowns and bumps. Good luck!

i would buy a at home wax kit and do it myself

It's pretty painful, but the more you do it the easier it gets.
