I live in a beautiful rural area in Oregon. I am in the county but only a short distance to town. For three years I have suffered because of a neighbor that lets his dogs bark all day and night. It has made me a sick man. I am 65 years old, retired after working 50 years with a small retirement.
He is a man in his 30's, living with a woman also with dogs.
He is not working, trying to get on a disability. So he is home all day and night. He chain saws all day saturday and sunday.
I have contacted animal control so many times, and he has been warned and warned, but this last week the duputy came to my home, and said he would take steps. He did, and gave them a citation. They can and probably will take me to court to disprove my allegations. I have video of the dogs in my yard, and also barking. Today , the day after they were given the citation, they have been angry, and making noise and letting their dogs run free in my yard. What would you do ?

I feel for you. I lived at one house for 19 years. the last 5 were made hell by a bad neighbor with barking and vicious dogs. I asked nicely to no avail. I called the police. They would just ask them to make the dog quiet. Then the animosity escalated with each action. It got so bad I was uncomfortable in my own yard. They were such lowlife. They rode motorcycles in their yard until it became a track. They cut through my yard with snowmobiles and had so many cars they parked them in the front yard grass. They seldom worked and also were trying to get on disability. I knew they wouldn't be moving.

How did I solve it? I moved three years ago. No mater how much I loved that house it was no longer a home.

Note to Jcsas: I love dogs, I had dogs (died of old age). I was a RESPONSIBLE owner. All dogs bark once in a while but it is up to the owner to make sure they are not a nuisance.

If they are running free and not contained, then they should be cited as this is dangerous to the dogs and people.

The barking - dogs bark man. Buy ear plugs, turn up the radio, move, etc.

Anything you do to stop it other than by legal means would be illegal, unlawful, immoral, unethical, animal cruelty, etc.

Well, okay, if the dog was running loose, I'd take it to animal control. They would have to hold the dog for so long. If your neighbors went to pick it up, they would have to pay a fine for letting their dog run at large, not having identification, they would (in Indiana) be summoned to court if there is no proof of rabies vaccination, etc. Keep taking the dog to animal control. Eventually animal control will get tired of having to deal with them. I know in my town any dog taken to animal control has a very unknown outcome (dogs disappearing if you know what I mean - they are currently being sued for the disappearance of a dog) and that threat alone is enough for action.

And as for the antifreeze - this is animal abuse and is considered a felony in some states.

To the person who suggested it, I reported you. Antifreeze is deadly and cruel. It is the owners who should be punished, not the animals. I have seen pets die of antifreeze and it is agonizing to see an animal seizure and vomit uncontrollably due to multiorgan failure. You are obviously a sociopath and need professional help to suggested such a thing.

I would call the police, since animal control will not take the proper steps, you can actually charge the owners with disturbing the peace on behalf of their dogs. If the cops laugh at you, a raw steak and some rat poison should take care of the problem forever, that is of course if you can handle the reprocussions. But, seriously though, the police will make animal control put the dogs in a shelter, and the owner can pay a couple hundred bucks to get them back. And if it happens again, the dogs will be euthanized. It is a very serious issue in canada, we have stray dogs in our country that are killing kids. If their dogs are running free, it is a serious threat to children in the neighbourhood. If you go before a judge, he will order the dogs taken away.

Contact the Home Owner's Association and follow through with your complaint with the Police.

Keep in mind that it's the guy's fault, not the dogs. I'm sure you know that, some people go a little crazy though when it comes to being annoyed by neighbors' pets.

Contact the poliece and contiue to gather evidence that the dogs are barking and are a disturbance to the peace. if their are other people living near you that are also irritated by the barking ask them to do the same. the authorities may give them the dog owners an ultimatum, stop the barking or get rid of the dogs. that should solve your problem

I, too, love canine, yet having a canine who yaps or barks in my community drives me loopy. The very last position I lived there change right into a huge black lab throughout the line who change into typically left by potential of himself all evening and into the evening, who barked and barked, even as top next door change right into somewhat terrier, who also yapped lots, even even as his vendors were homestead. i change into unable to do something about the problem, albeit I did ring the council about the large canine, who reported that they could no longer do something if the canine change into fed and appeared after. i'm getting truly offended at those who're responsible for offensive noise that invades my sources, barking canine and loud "track" being suitable of the record, and, it variety of feels they're the failings that a house dweller is envisioned to submit with, or come to a call by potential of themselves. Congratulations about fixing the problem.

Ear Plugs? Or go and make friends with the dogs.

I have a neighbor like you, only he yells at my dog. He says 'Shut the F**k UP!! I have yelled back at him, and told him to quit yelling at my dog. It's after 8am and he has every right to bark at things.

My dog comes in the house at night, and the summer months he comes in when it reaches mid 90's.

Or than that, my dog just lays around on his chain and around his condo.

I was just wondering how can people hate dogs? Why do they hate them? I'm sure people like you have to be put up with, too. But they don't go calling the authorities to complain that you are in their view, or heard you talking and they don't want to hear you. I believe all beings should be treated with respect.

Maybe you should ask your neighbors if you can walk their dog. Maybe the dog knows you don't like him, so in return he don't like you. I know, I wouldn't like you.

Continue to contact the animal control people in your area and the police. What you are dealing with is harassment. It is unforntunate that your neighbors are not caring for their dogs as they should.

tell him, tell the council, and do you have a hose? If so. have it attached ready to fire! Then, when he barks, lean over the fence and get him! Ha!

I would place pans of antifreeze in my yard -- but that's just me.
