A good friend is coming to visit me from out of town, we have a little history, so we're planning on "hooking up". I made the offer to reserve a room and have it ready when he gets into town. I'm thinking there's a 50% chance that he may want to stay over-night with me, but I really don't want that. How can I accomplish this withouth being rude or mean?

Reserve the room, have some fun, then go home.

You just have to be honest and make it clear before he comes. Something like, " I feel a little funny about this, and I know we have a past, but I want to make sure you understand that we won't be sleeping together while you're visiting. That part of our friendship is over ... and it's all the better for it. That stuff causes way too many complidations!"
Keep it neutral, even humorous.

well, you can get the room and reserve it, but who says you have to stay with him. let him spent the night in the room and you leave. tell him that you think its kind of late, plus you have to get up early in the morning and then leave. thats not being rude at all, and to be less rude, considering he is coming from out of town let the man have that room. don't be selfish and rude.

Obviously you have changed your mind and there is nothing wrong there. When you will meet him tell him you have a good news and a bad one. You have made a reservation for him but you will not be able to stay overnight with him. Be straight forward with him.

Well when he gets there after alking awhile ask him where he will be staying while he is in town. Or before he leaves to visit you ask him where he is staying.Or you can give him a pillow and let him sleep on the couch.

Well you kind of gave him the impression that he was going to get some. You shouldn't send mixed signals. Just be honest with him and tell him how you feel. Being honest is the best way out of this situation.

Just tell him in the beginning, under no uncertain terms that you will not be having sex with him. After he knows that, then it shouldn't be a problem. It's not about being rude or mean, it's about being exposed to unwanted sexual advances. No means no. Best of luck to you.

If you have a room ready for him, what can he expect but to be allowed to stay over night. You are giving this guy mixed signals.

Bust out your laptop and tell him that you have some work thing that HAS to be finished by early morning tomorrow

Don't go to a hotel with a man-- unless he's going to pay you for the services you provide. Prostitutes are never expected to spend the night, so I doubt he'll want you to.
