Both the colon and stomach are on the left side and the appendix is on the right. Most likely a stomach or colon problem. If the pain is not too bad, and there are no otther symptoms, you might wait an hour to see if things change - gas pains seldom stay constant for more than a hour. If nothing changes, then it might be a good idea to go the doc.
On the other hand, if your wife is like mine, I would log off the computer and just go straight to the doc, whether its necessary or not!

John, things like an ulcer, GERD, (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) as well as inflammation of the upper digestive tract can cause the discomfort she is feeling. If there is an association with gas, this can also suggest a GI cause.
Things to consider would be an upper GI series or upper endoscopy. I would also test for a bacteria known as H Pylori - which is associated with ulcers or inflammation.
You may want to discuss this with your personal physician as soon as possible. Followup with your personal physician is essential. This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice..âº

If it is the colon theres not alot the hospital will be able to do other then put her on some massive laxitives to clean her out. If its somthing more serious like the hart then you should take her immidatly. and just so you know it could be the hart. i would suggest taking her. Dont take the risk

It could be any number of things. The first thing that comes to mind is gas. Sounds silly, but it could be severe enough to be causing this pain. Otherwise, other readers have suggested a lot of things. If you're that concerned give your doctor a call. Even if it's after hours, they should have someone "on call" that will help you.

Is she having any other symptoms (like fever, nauseated, etc)? Does she have pneumonia or some other illness? Does it hurt if she touches the area, is it swelled, etc?
If she's throwing up or has a fever and it doesn't go away in a few hours or get any better/gets worse, maybe go to the hospital.

It could be the colon, but if she's in real pain you need to get to the hospital. If it's her spleen she needs to see a doc soon.

You could wait a while, and perhaps get a regular doctor appt. But if she is in alot of pain then you might want to get her into the hospital.

Why are you asking on here? Does your wife know you're looking to a bunch of (questionable) strangers as the source of whether or not she needs to see a doctor??
If she's in severe pain and it's continuing - TAKE HER TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!!!!

If it has been going on for a long time, you should take her to a doctor. If it is just been a short period of time it could be gas from something she ate. It is probably better to be safe than sorry. You might want to call her doctor.

my son had sharp pain on his left side and it turned out he had kidney tube blockage, his kidney stoped functioning and they removed his kidney 2 weeks ago. honest, he's only 11. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is seek professional advice, not from strangers.
