If you are the oldest child, her protective behavior is probably due to the fact that, with you, she is sailing in uncharted waters. She doesn't know what she should and shouldn't be allowing you to do. Talk to her about it. Explain in a calm manner that you feel trapped. Show her that you can be responsible and she will reward you with new privledges.

Well you don't say how old you are. If you are still under 18 then your mom has the right to control your life. If she is being too controlling then she must have her reasons. Maybe she isn't as controlling as you think she is...moms are protective of their babies no matter how old they are. If you are an adult and living on your own, then you need to tell her that you feel smothered and try to figure out a compromise. Just consider your self lucky that you have a mother that cares about your welfare.

You are right she is over protective of you. I know it is annoying and she wants to control your life. But at least she loves you. You know what is funny is that in about 5 years you will marry a woman just like your mother. So get used to it.

Is it that wrong for a mother to try and see that nothing bad happens to their children? If you want your freedom that much, when you are 18, move out of the house, and get hit between the eyeballs on how hard it really is out in the world.

Think back on all the times she stopped you hurting yourself.
did she make you wear sunscreen? play in the shade, wear a hat?
Did she make you come home before dark?
Did she cook vegetables and pack healthy lunches?.
Man you don't know how lucky you are. All this stuff doesn't benefit her, dummy.
Say "thanks Mum" for taking good care of me. I don't have melanoma, I didn't get raped or assaulted, cause you always knew where I was. And I have all my teeth cause you made me brush them.
For years her life has been about getting you to adulthood in a fit state of body and mind. Your choice once you are an adult.
But don't blame her for keeping on trying to keep you on the road of life, thank her instead.

Imagine nursing a baby for years, helping a toddler learn to walk, all a child's bumps, bruises, illnesses and getting through all of it for 16 years.
Now imagine he/she wants/demands to go out and do things that could easily get her/him killed in a flash.
That's why.

There's no shame for love. She's afraid to let go. IT may take time for her to learn to let go and being patient, understanding and showing compassion for the one who gave you life, would help. Be patient, talk to her and acknowledge that you're growing up and want more space...she loves you, that's worth it.
