I disagree with the answer that says the help from surgery is temporary. I had both wrists done 5 or 6 years ago - not at the same time, about two weeks apart - and I haven't had a bit of trouble since.
And, it was a little achy for a couple of days - that was it. My biggest restriction was not lifting anything over 10 lbs for 6 weeks.
I wouldn't put off surgery too long, especially if you've tried other things after being diagnosed. The longer the nerve compression continues, the more likely it is that it will take longer to regain full function, and there is the chance that permanent nerve damage can occur.

NO, the pain is not worse after surgery.
I had it done 10 years ago. Today there is
nothing to it. If your pain is bad enough now,
you will have the surgery and not worry.
My pain was released immediately.
And after 10 years it has NEVER bothered
me at all. Try putting your arm in a brace for
now, and try not to bend it. I also use to wrap
my arm in ice. That worked as a temporary
fix. Get that surgery.

Dont worry =) surgery always seems bad, but you have to realize that these people who are performing the surgery are trained professionals. I am a physician myself, and I treat my patients the same way I would want (noy myself), but my wife and children to be treated. They will make sure you're okay, and they will not let you suffer. Most likely they will prescribe you pain medications and if they do not prescribe you pain medications that work and refuse to give you something stronger, feel free to contact me, as they are practicing malpractice and you have the right to take legal action for this, and they will have their license suspended or revoked by the DEA. If you need any information on the pain, please contact me at darkvader19892003@yahoo.com I am a physician, and I can explain to you exactly how they are LEGALLY required to treat you. and how you should approach them in order to ensure that your surgery is as painless as possible =). Good Luck!

Try wearing a wrist brace to keep it straight, so the nerves cannot be pinched.
The surgery helps temporarily.
Take Ibuprofen (every 4 to 6 hours) for the inflammation and swelling and wear a wrist brace. See if it doesn't feel much better.
