No child needs to have $200 jeans to wear just so they can fit in at school. It's insane to pay that kind of money since children will grow out of the cloths before they are even worn. When my children were young, I bought them things that I could afford and if they wanted something different, it was just to bad. If I had several million dollars, I still would not pay hundreds of dollars for jeans. I do think that some of these parents have more money then BRAINS! They should teach their children more important things in life, like being kind, thoughtful and accepting of other people, whether they can afford expensive cloths or not!!

heck no. I am 17, almost every piece of clothing my parents ever bought me came from the good will or salvation army. we never had that kind of money. who cares what other kids think. if we did not "fit in" who cares? those kids were stuck up. the best Friends I ever had were the ones who were not worried about the cost of clothes, or about "fitting in". my grandparents are the only ones who have ever really given us NEW clothes, but they never cost more than $35 a piece, if that much.
today I saw that I had worn out some of my pants (to the point of ripping, these were in BAD shape). I knew my parents were going out so I told them I needed more pants. they brought home a bag from the salvation army with 2 jeans and a pair of khakis. I am happy with what I got. I know the value of a dollar, and I don't care if others at school spend that much on clothes. I am grateful for what I get.

Kids do need brand name clothes to fit in at school, but there are less expensive alternatives than $200.00 If my 15 yr. old told me she wanted $200.00 jeans, I would tell her how much money I was willing to pay toward a pair of jeans (about $50 - $75) for a brand name then say you can either find something for that price or you can work around the house and babysitt and save the rest until you have enough of your own hard earned money to spend on 1 pair of jeans.

No, a child does not "need" to wear $200 jeans; they may "want" to wear them, however. My wife and I do not even buy $200 jeans for ourselves, let alone our kids. If my kids needed to wear $200 jeans just to fit in, I would tell them to find different friends.

OK, here is the 411, well my 411 on designe clothes. A $200 pair of jeans...is not needed, not unless you live on the upper east side, NY or in Malibu. Girls can fit in better with stylish not so pricey clothes, but boys on the otherhand, i do think that the name matters because all boys clothes have names writen al over them. And if i could afford it yes I would by my children nice clothes. Again, not from bloomingdales, but i would try my hardest to make them "fit in" Its a downfall of society, but it is what it is..

$200 jeans yeah right. So your kids wanna fit in doesn't mean if you buy them expensive clothes people will like them. I'm a teen and i admit i have some expensive clothes but not $200 jean or jacket or whatever, if your kid wants expensive clothes like that tell them to get a job and buy it yourself!!

Children grow so fast, and never stay in one size too long. They go through shoes like water. Buying expensive clothes is a waste. Children don't need name brands to fit in. Personally my children wear store brands, I am on a budget. My children fit in and are well liked. It is not the brand of clothes but how you wear them. And it's not the clothes you wear, it is the person who is wearing them.

You can get cheap and stylish clothes at Old Navy, Steve & Barry's, Kohl's, and every once in a while you can find some high-end stuff at the Salvation Army. They aren't really nice clothes, but who really wants their kids to be defined by their clothes anyways?
There's always a middle ground where you don't have to send your kid to school in Member's Only apparel, but you don't have to drop a grand at Abercrombie for a couple shirts and a pair of jeans.

only if you want a child who values things over quality.
If your child
"needs" 200$ jeans to fit in, you need to talk to the parents of her friends and find out whats going on..and if they persist that they need the pants, make them mow lawns shovel sid walks or baby sit for the money to buy them. You only have to provide the nicesities for your child. making them work for the fancy things is a way of loving your child that most of society has forgotten. We are only intitled to the nicesities and need to earn the perks or the jeans.
