Since a Jack Russell has fur rather than hair, a certain amount of shedding is normal. Daily brushing will help with shedding too. Proper nutrition is also important to keep the skin and coat healthy. If your dog is shedding excessively, then perhaps you need to make an appointment with a veterinarian.

Some parts of shedding are due to breed, so no matter what you do your JRT will always shed. Check out foods that are specifically for skin and coat-- a lot of them have added nutrients to help with shedding. I personally give my Cairn Terrier 2 Brewers Yeast tabs a day (bought at WalMart in the pet section). The bottle claims to help with shedding, although Cairns typically do not shed. It has however helped with his skin, which is easily irritated and can become really dry-- I haven't had problems since I started giving it to him when he was a pup-- and he's now 2 yrs old.
Shop around before you buy stuff at some of the major pet stores-- alot of times you can get the same stuff at WalMart or Target and it's ALOT cheaper. Also, check out Doctor's Foster and Smith... they have a lot of stuff that will help with shedding and coat issues in their catalog and online.

It's normal for dogs to shed. How you manage this is to brush your dog every day so that you get the majority of the dead hair off in the brush and not on your carpet and furniture.

you can't keep him from shedding, but you can use a lint roller to get all the hairs off before they actually fall off onto the furniture, floor, etc...... just roll it across the hairs (your dog will just think you are giving him a rub and attention)
