I have a puppy about to go into heat and you can tell but is it normal for her to be very moody during this point, im just wondering because she has been acting extremely strange the past 2 or 3 days.

I've heard of dogs going into heat "P.M.S.ing" according to their owners. She knows she feels different, and that can cause anxiety and restlessness. But she should return to her normal self when it's over.

One warning, though: if by "strange" you mean she just wants to lay around, isn't interested in food, or has a "I don't feel good" look on her face, have her checked for pyometra (uterine infection) or urinary tract infection. Both could cause you to see a bloody discharge. Pyometra would be very unlikely at her age, but still.... when in doubt, see the vet.

dogs typically go into heat for the first time around 6 months of age but each dog is different just as each woman is different. It is also perfectly normal for your dog to act differently during this time. Her body is changing just the same way a girls does and she doesn't understand anymore then we do when we enter puberty.

Behavior changes can be seen in dogs that come into heat. They may show aggression, especially towards house mates, food, etc. Why not have her spayed and avoid all that, plus avoided pregnacies and contributing to pet over-population and abuse, avoiding potentially fatal pyometra, decreasing her chance of mammary cancer and eliminating her chance of uterine or ovarian cancer? Seems like a much better idea to me. Oh, and you don't have to throw out your bedding everytime she comes into heat and bleeds all over your bed, house, yard, etc.

Yes, it is normal behavior. Like women have PMS. It is caused by raging hormones.

Go ASAP and get her spade. You will do this if you love her. She has a very high chance of getting cancer if you let her have her heat cycles.
