counterclockwise it can be a little tough to break loose you can wedge a pry bar between the bolts that hold the fan on to keep the pulley from spinning then you will have plenty of leverage to turn the fan clutch off

There should be four 7/16, 1/2 or 5/16 in bolts that go into the water pump flange. If ther are nuts, they'll come off clockwise if their right handed. Bolts clockwise if they are right handed. If your fan clutch is secured by studs look at the threads extending past the hex screw. They may be left hand threads which means the nuts come off counter clockwise. Tip: Hold a 5/16 cap screw threads facing away from you. Notice the treads will appear higher on the right side of of the shaft than the left. That's a common right hand thread. The opposite is true if it's left handed. You can always peek at the threads behind the water pump flange to see the treads extending through it also. Good Luck
