Go to the Post Office and get a Royal Mail Postal Money order for the amount you need. They cost 8.75% of the face value or 8 pound 75, which ever is cheaper. Maximum face value is 250 pound, so if you have to pay more than that, you will have to send multiple postal orders.

If you are paying a large sum off, you might be better off to open a bank account that offers an ATM card with either the Visa or Master Card logo on. You can use the card like a credit card to pay this off. They are really handy to have as well. Last I knew, most banks in the UK didn't require you to purchase cheques to open such an account. Also, some banks sell pre paid Visa cards. It is just like having a credit card, only it will have only the amount of money on it you purchased. It's like a gift card only you can use it like Visa.

One other option might be to check with a bank or two. Many banks will sell you a Bank Draught or Cashier's Cheque for a small fee, if you don't hold an account. Might be cheaper than the Postal Order route.

I hope this has been helpful for you. Good luck.

pay down the plastic! avoiding 10% or more interest is FAR superior than getting paid a paltry 3% or less on cash. if you really need cash due to an emergency you can get it as a cash advance against your c/c, there will probalby be an up-front 3% charge, and the interest rate on a cash advance is VERY high, but you dont expect to have to do it, right? BTW: if the 6300 is your Fed tax refund, you are WAY overwithheld. Claim an additional exemption so that your net paycheck is higher. Why give the Feds an interest-free loan?

As others already suggested, a money order would be easy. Your other option is purchasing a prepaid Visa/MasterCard. You buy the card at a bank (some stores sell them in the US). The card is like a gift card - the value is only what you pay for it. But, since it's not for a specific store, you can use it anywhere that Visa or MasterCard is accepted. Wow, I sounded like a commercial there...

INTERNATIONAL CHECK or money order can do. however it takes some time for international checks to clear( even if they are certified bank checks). the easiest thing to do is do a wire transfer from your bank in UK to the US loan account.Make sure you call your loan bank and ask for specific wire transfer instructions-bank aba#, account #(not your loan # since u will be sending a wire to your bank and not to your account), address, swift code.......

Go to the nearest bank, ask for a money order. They don't fill anything out, you give them the money, DONE. You fill out the rest.
