I think that you should ask your pastor/priest if it's ok. They would know. The Bible says that your body is God's temple, but I am sure that it would be ok with the Most High if you got one in an area that you can cover up, or a tattoo that displays your faith (a Cross, your favorite Bible quote, etc.). But I wouldn't be sure. Good luck finding out! Sincerley, Sylvia "The Fairy"

Yes, Leviticus does have a verse where God forbids the Jews to cut themselves for the dead or tattoo their bodies. I am a Christian and I chose to have a tattoo before I was aware of this verse.
Would I have gotten the tattoo if I was aware of it? I think It would have made the decision a lot tougher. Nevertheless, I am stuck with it and I do not regret it.
It took me a lot of time to come up with what I believe reflects my belief and faith. It is the same symbol as my avatar...the Alpha and Omega. I wanted to show my allegiance to Christ and to have His "mark" placed on myself. I consider it my answer to the "mark of the beast" or "anti-mark", so to speak. It is on my forearm and people are always asking what it represents. This has given me a chance to witness to many people.
I have found some in the Baptist church I attend, looking at it but I have never found anyone openly objecting to it. I would like to think that God would see my wanting this symbol as something glorifying to Him. At least my intent was good.
If you do decide on getting one, I would choose something appropriate and think carefully on where it is placed.

The prohibition against tattooing is in the OT. It referred to a common practise of disguising oneself during morning so that the spirit of the deceased could not recognize/haunt/harm you.
Tattooin is considered "adiaphora" - those things which are of no spiritual or theological significance. If you choose, you can use the Temple=Body argument. Personally, I'd be more worried about the violent video games/movies/music and sexually suggestive media that we are putting into our bodies.

You did ask for Scripture, which none of the above three provided. Yowza, getting what you ask for nowadays, huh?
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" (1 Corinthians 6:19)
Thus, when you manage to get the Holy Spirit's permission to tattoo HIS temple, you may; not until then. (And I say this as a parent of a daughter with two (2!) tattoos. Yikes.

*Just get one if you want one.* heck if it is a sin you can always repent, like everyone else does.Your church may preach against it, but the only passages against them are in the Old Testement, which I will not look up because I am sure you will have mahy to quote that one. The New Teste4ment has no command either way.
During warm weather look closely at men in your type church and I bet you will find many tattoed men. Oh, they will probably say that they got it before they were Christians, or tha they had weak faith, but the fact is there are many who do have them and probably a few women.]

Some people are taking that scripture out of context. You aren't getting this tattoo because somebody died, are you?
Having said that, you ought to know, it hurts to get a tattoo...also, once it's on there, it's very hard to remove. Although sometimes the ink used for tattoos tends to fade over time...imagine what your sweet tat is gonna look like when you're fifity? LOL! If you're gonna get one, have a pro do it. DON'T let some friend do it with his home-made equipment...that's just asking for trouble!
Have fun!!

I only know that in the Old Testiment it says that you should leave this earth as you enterented it. Most jews still do not get tattoos but some do. Ask you minister/priest. He should have the answer that your looking for. Good Luck and may G-d bless you too (tattoos or not).

Well I know you're a Christian but Im Muslim and just wanna share this..It may be the same for your Religion but it says in the Koran that the act of getting a tattoo is a sin. Becuase you are hurting your body the same reason Drugs are a sin. But when it is on..You are no longer sinning because you already committed the sin. Get it? Its controversial in Islam...
Well anyway GOod Luck I hope you find out what it says for Christians!

"Leviticus 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."
Summary: Do not mark yourself for the dead.
This does not mean it is a sin to get a tattoo, unless it has something to do with someone that has died. Say, if your mom died, and you get a tattoo that says "Mom", that is wrong. But if you get a tattoo of say, a computer, that's not wrong.
Please note that those were examples and I in no way expect you to actually get a computer tattoo.
