Forceps are a surgical tool used by doctors. They are essentially two sticks on a hinge and are used to manipulate tissue and remove foreign objects during surgery.

Forceps are used for ALL kinds of things. And there are different kinds of forceps. Homeostatic forceps and thumb forceps, and different kinds of each of those as well. At the vet clinic we use forceps to pluck hair when we need a sample of hair, or to clean out furry ears. I would guess that it feels like plucking your eye brows. Forceps are also used during surgery. They are used to block vessels, or hold pieces of tissue. This doesn't hurt because the dog is anesthetized. And i am sure there are a ton more uses that i can't think of right now. During surgery if it is the best tool the surgeon will grab it, or in the clinic if we find something (like a splinter..) we will grab them also.

Forceps are a class of surgical instruments whose purpose is to hold on to tissue or other objects. There are literally hundreds of different kinds of forceps. Whether or not they hurt depends on how they are used.

There are many many types of forceps. Think of a fancy pair of tweezers. They can be small or large like when used with child birth. I don't think many doctors use them as much due to the possible nerve damage to the baby.I hope that helped. Tell us in what circumstance they will be used.

Looks like they should hurt, but they are almost always used INSIDE the body (during surgery) where you cannot feel pain.

AND THEN FOR BABIES:

Forceps are grasping instruments.
They come in many
different forms.
Eye brow tweezers
are a form of forcep.
Pulling an eyebrow
can cause a twinge of pain.
I will assume that you may be referring to obstetrical forceps.
Without anesthesia
their use would likely be quite uncomfortable.
