It is a sign to tell you that every thing on this planet is going upside down. Veil is dangerous but protistuition is legal.????????

I'm not offended by headcoverings (Islamic, Mennonite, or any other variety). But I live in a relatively conservative Christian area, and believe me, there are people who do get upset by bikinis (especially thong bikinis) and other immodest apparel. I'm not particularly bothered either way. What people choose to wear is their business.

Some people also get upset in this particular area of the US by veils on Muslim women because they are "foreign". The veil is seen as flaunting foreign customs instead of making a serious effort to assimilate into American society. I don't necessarily see it that way, but many people do.

Some people also get upset about Sikh males wearing turbans, because the wearing of turbans is not an American custom. I know of a man who was attacked by people trying to forcibly remove the turban from his head.

You're asking about the intrinsic differences between to different cultures. There is plenty that goes on in Western culture that would offend Islamic and vice versa. These differences are what makes the human race what it is. How boring would it be if we were all the same?

Ignorance? Maybe they're just not used to seeing it and they are repelled by what they don't understand. Personally, the reaction confuses me because people from many different religions cover their heads as a show of respect. I like not covering my head, but if someone else wants to cover hers, that's up to her.
(Covering her FACE is another issue....) Actually, I have found that some of the headcoverings worn by Islamic women are some of the loveliest scarves I've seen.

I am offended by many things as I would guess you are. If a woman in a bikini came to work it would be inappropriate. A bikini belongs on the Beach. A veil belongs in a Mosque. Keep your religious ornaments to yourself and I won't wear swim trunks in church.

Women in bikinis aren't hiding anything. Most people in western society find head covering to be.... rude. Like the person is hiding something. Its why its considered polite to take a hat off when entering into a building.

So the veils are seen as someone hiding something. They prevent a clear view of a persons face and so also prevent properly reading body language.

Which most consider rude.

people are scared of what they don't understand and so they feel they should stop muslims wearing a veil because it scares them! they are just ignorant! you choose to believe what you want and no one can stop that! im not offended its their practice of their religion. let them do it! if you stop one person or one religion you have to stop every other religion

People are offended because they think it's misogynistic (and I agree). What's wrong with a woman in a bikini? Why should she have to hide herself from the eyes of men?

However, I think it's your business if you feel inclined to wear one. Just like Amish people and their headcoverings... I think it's wrong, but they have the right to do it.

It's a matter of extremes I guess. One extreme is more accepted than another.

It is a good question though. Being very modest is a horrible sin, but showing everything but your tonsils to someone you met two minutes ago is "liberating".
