I have noticed maybe 2 hairs that have like 7 splits on them. But the splits aren't at the end. They split randomly in the middle of the shaft.
What is that called?

The hair breaks off as a result of split ends.
1. the hair splits up the shaft
2. when it splits as far as it can go then the rest breaks off.
