This is not a rhetorical question. I'm not trying to bash anyone's beliefs. I'm truly trying to gain an understanding of how we could possibly be better off, besides the obvious fact of our soldiers being safer. How will our troop redeployment affect the global war on terror?

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. The bad guys are still out there trying to get in here and we don't have the money to implement the border protections necessary to insure they don't. Why? Because we are wasting it in Iraq in a war based on lies and false pretenses spun to the American public by Dubya and his cohorts. In case you can't figure it out Osama and the boys don't come out and fight in Brigades, Companies, or Divisions. The war on terror will be won buy law enforcement, border protections, and covert special forces strikes. Every day we stay in Iraq we drain resources away from these while creating another terrorist to hate America.

I think the real question is: "Will the US be better off by remaining in Iraq?". It was obvious to me from the beginning that the US had no business invading Iraq, that it had no relationship at all to the war on terror. The place to fight it was Afghanistan.
So yes, troop redloyment, as you call it, would save lives, a lot of money, which, if they served some useful purpose, it would be different.
On the other hand, given that it was a bad idea to go in there, now it has become a focal point for raising terrorists. In a sense, I would wish the US and the new Iraqui government every success in putting down all the insurgent groups. But the only way they could really do that, would be by nuking Iraq, because it has become a people's war.
And I would not be for nuking Iraq, so I say get out.

Bush screwed this up from the get go. He never finished the job in Afghanistan and we're losing ground there. If he had really been interested in winning the war on terrorism, he wouldn't have invaded Iraq. We don't have enough troops in either place to win. We have to sit back and make a decision. Do we want to win in Afghanistan, where we have a much better chance of winning or do we stay in Iraq and get caught up in someone elses civil war?

There was more than enough reason for us to invade Iraq, but it could have waited until we got the ones who actually hit us. For people to say that we need to fight them there or we'll fight them here need to do a reality check. We've been fighting them there for a very long time and now they're bringing the fight to us. We will have another terrorist attack here in the next few years. Bush hasn't made us safer, anything, he's made us a bigger target.

I am a person who was against the war to begin with. I could go into all of the reasons however, I will bore you with one. Saddam Hussein was not responsible for 911. Saddam was an evil little tin god, that we (meaning the US) used when it suited us.

Saying that, I believe that since we went in there are items we need to do. Staying the course is not one of them. When I am driving down the highway in the wrong direction - my husband would have a heart attack if I were to continue because I wanted to stay the course.

I am not an expert. I do feel we need to help the Iraqi citizens rebuild. We should also train them to run and protect their own country but not there. We are not welcome and our soldiers (and being retired Air Force my friends) are in danger.

I believe that are continued presence in Iraq is continuing to promote terrorism. See it from the side of the Middle East. We went in, there was no weapons of destruction, atrocities are being committed by our soldiers (not all but some), we are promoting Christian values rather than Muslim. In their eyes, we are the terrorists. Look at it this way - if Iraq came to the US and attacked saying we were a threat to them and they won and were occupying and running things would we not gather our minute men to defend us just like in the Revolutionary War.

Good luck to you.

This was the question that should have been ask By the People to the President . Do you think we would honestly be better off to invade Iraq? The war on terror has now got a home land, Iraq & the USA needs their Man power at home now, Katrina-Ice Storms- Fires and invasion from Mexico, how many more tragedies can our people endure? Yes bring them home let them raise their families.

I have been adamantly against the war from the beginning, and unfortunately 50 years from now it will be considered a greater tragedy than 9-11 was.

That said,, we broke it, so we own it.
We have a moral obligation now to repair a nation that we had no business entering in the first place, and it is going to be a tough row to hoe.

Bush opened a hugh can of worms!!! He just wanted to be "the boss". Staying is not going to make it better. This will be another Vietnam if our government does not leave Iraq and Afghanistan. They do not want Democracy so leave them alone and watch our borders. That's what should have happened before 911. Maybe if the Bush's were not so heavily involved with oil companies in the east they might be able to think straight. Staying will not change anything, middle eastern countries do not want us there, then leave!

I think by leaving now would show our weakness and would be a mistake because we are there for a reason - to fight terrorism and create a democracy for the Iraqi people. That is what America does.

The sad part is yes, they really think we will be. The truth is that we would just be fighting terrorist here on US soil. Soldiers join the military by their own free will just like i did. No one makes us join. People that want us to leave have never been in the military and they are just whining liberals like that cindy shehan lady and her sex buddy micheal moore. These people do not understand the world and they do not know their history. If we cut and run like they want us to, thousands of innocent americans will die on the streets of NY, LA, Atlanta, Chicago and so on.
