Hi Tom! I guess the Doc got more info from you to think you needed Mebeverine - for cramps and spasms - take them while you have cramps. A Nurse Practioner told me @ paramedic stressed patient who she recommended Actimel to and he said it worked wonders for his abdo pains and cramping. I would think a high-fibre diet to keep you regular would help stop spasms too. Don't know why presciptions are written for same when there are apples and AllBran out there!

Probably destressing activities would also help - from active sports(swimming, running etc) to relaxing therapies (yoga, music, total body relaxation etc).

sounds more like a heart complaint...or stress reaction....do you get pains in your arms or are you breathless at all? Hve you had your blood pressure checked? You don't say how far up the rib cage the pain goes...it may well...if it's low be a digestion problem in the intestines rather than the bowel....go see a doc and tell her/him when it hurts.....keep a diary of food consumed and when the pains begin...if you do this for a week or two you should see a correlation if it's digestion related. good luck..

IBS is a diagnosis of EXCLUSION. You may need to be worked-up (aside from blood exams) to exclude organic causes. If no significant cause is found, IBS may be the reason. IBS means your gastrointestinal tract is very sensitive to stimulation, even psychological pressures may cause symptoms to appear.
